Hi

Really need some help advice I have been trying to get into the car body repair field for a long time no luck. Tried as a trainee and apprentice. Have a IMI level 2 in paint refinishing and started helping out at a garage recently restoring cars. I love working with cars and seeing them restored can do a lot if given a chance.

Does anyone have some advice? Or would anyone give me a chance to work for them

Try this

I recall a member here doing the same a couple of years ago. I think he did some free work experience in the end to get his foot in the door.

Thank you I have applied for the job. I have applied many trainee apprenticeship jobs no luck, employers perfer young people as they get funding. Have asked bodyshops for free experience still nothing. Really at the end of my tether now

Marked1 might have been referring to me. I was in exactly the same boat as you a couple years ago i.e wanting to become a body repair/sprayer but not being able to get on any courses etc.

I went round asking small indie bodyshops saying I'd train for free etc. I luckily got in at 1 place but I only could hack it for 5 months as I was being used more as a 'driver' than a trainee.

So now I work at Royal Mail and given up on the whole repair/spraying career. (I realised in that 5 months it's a horrible dusty/poisoning environment to work in...2k being sprayed with no masks and it filling the whole work shop. A quick way to die young.)

So now I just train myself in my spare time which I much prefer as I won't lose interest.

But, keep looking bud and be persistent. Just don't get taken for a mug.
