never an easy one to answer,, if it was for trackdays only, i would be tempted to go for a cup car...depends on budget...you can pick a 993Rs up For £40k up to £50k lhd, clubsports are now £50k+...if he wants rhd (why would you on track) then RS start at £55k, clubsports of which there are 7 seem to be £75-85k!!!

If it was for track only, i would be tempted by a converted carrera 2...strip one out, pss9 suspension, spoilers, engine chip, race seats, cage you could spend £10k on the conversion with a donor car for rouns abouts £20k.

These converted cars do go well and are a match for a standard RS on track.

If he must have a real RS,then firstly check it is a real RS! most have been on track so check for damage and quality of repair, check engine bhp...timing can slip, this makes them 260bhp not 300 bhp......the lsd plates give up around 30k miles, maybe less on a heavily tracked car....these 2 problems cost about £1k to sort.

places to look pistonheads classifieds, pcgb website, www.gtclassics.co.uk, www.germansportscars.de

i may be aware of a lhd RS track car available in the new year, can'y confirm it's availability at the moment....and Senna..."keep schtum!"

I was thinking about this a while back, but the price of the donor car makes it an expensive project. What is the lowest price anyone has known a 993 C2 coupe to go for and where would you start to look to find such a car?

Think there's a 60k mile LHD c2 knocking around for 18k, can't remember if i saw it on PH on or autotrader. Aventura green i think it was. Pretty cheap anyway.

And as anyone will tell you, an air-cooled 911 is best served LHD...

An expensive project? Yes it is enough money, but I was suggesting this as a cheaper alternative to spending £50-85k on an Original 993RS CS...this is a considerable ammount of money to be tracking IMHO etc..

Agreed, it is a lot of money At risk.

Does have to be a 993RS? For track work only a 964RS or RS clone would be much cheaper and there would't be much in the comparative performances.

You could probably get into a GT3 for similar money to a 993RS.

Yes, I understood what you were meaning there CS. My take was, that it is getting more and more difficult to use any 993 to have fun on the roads. Track use is obviously the best option, but I have a nice road-going RHD example that would be pretty hopeless for serious track work and a bit of a waste to convert.

Surprisingly 9m may be able to help (sorry in advance for the blatant plug).

We have just bought a damaged 993RS CS to use as a donor for our 993C2S/GT2 replica bodyshell, the intention to build a lighter replacement for my 993RSCS. We could be persuaded to part with the project since me and Marc now have something a little more special in mind, available as either as a finished shell and parts or as a complete 993RS GT2 Cubsport replica. Any interested parties should get in touch through the usual channels.

Senna here!

You never did tell me anything about the second 993 RS that you were considering looking at......so I can't blab anything!!

Besides.....I was rather taken by the one you e-mailed me about.

Watch this space.

Why would you want to buy a gt3,there is a red and yellow 993 rs out there that will eat 996 gt3 and cup car,if on slicks as well!

I went to see a so called ready to race 911 at parr, should be ready to retire or rebuild more like!
Buy a 993 cup car for purley tracks, mine may be for sale,If our plans go ahead for a new/differant car.

Mind you a 964 rs will take some beating for value and track manners!

If I remember rightly from Brands, the yellow one was eating them, the red one was merely having a lick on the way past!
