I was away for a couple of weeks and went to start the V8V yesterday. Battery was flatter than a road-kill hedgehog and I ended up jump-starting it. Burst straight into life but came up with an error message of EMISSION SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED.

So, have I goosed something? Hopefully not... Is there a way to clear the message without a trip to the dealer?

Many thanks!

Yes. Get yourself an OBD II Reader on EBay or Amazon and cancel the message.
This is a fairly common error and takes seconds to cancel.

Yep second that, I get the error if I haven't driven my car for a while. The O2 sensors have a funny 5 minutes sometimes and it gives you that error message. The reader will get rid of the message and yellow triangle showing. However, if this keeps coming back, then you may need to have it seen to.

Many thanks, Ice. That's one ordered (along with the six bottles of champagne from Sainsbury's!)

Oh - any idea where it plugs into the V8V?

Or it will probably clear itself after a few drives. Mine came on driving back from Burghley. Cleared itself yesterday. This is the second time it has happened in 3 years. Its caused by the lambda sensor error limit being set too close to the normal operating range. This results in it being triggered occasionally. If its not triggered again in the next few drives it will reset itself.

The socket is in the driver side footwell below the steering column.

As above, get a reader, make a note of error code, reset

if it comes back on weeks/months later, do the same again

if you get same error code persistently likely a real issue

I had this a few times over 18 months and it was a faulty O2 sensor...£75 off ebay and 1 hours labour at local garage
