Apart from a brief sunny spell this afternoon it has absolutely bladdered it down all day in Lancs.

I've actually been sat in front of a log fire, and the temperatures next week look grim at 15-17c and rain every day. Rats cocks. I hate rain.

Absolutely - it's bloody freezing. Because this is the only day that there should be no rain I motorbike to work today (over the pennines). Cold cold cold!

I had the fire lit last week. Brrr.

Funny, we even thought about putting on the CH last night, it was so cold!

I guess we all need to say it again. If they can't even predict the month ahead, how can they have any say at all about climate change? wobblesmash

To be fair on the MET - nowhere in the Express article does it state that the MET made such a prediction about August being particularly hot (one quote from the met even says that the temperature for the first few days the weather wont "be quite as warm and dry as it has been"

Most of the quotes attributed to the MET were commenting on the weather in July - with only one quote stating that for the first week in August "temperatures will be above average across eastern and south-central areas" (they didn't say by how much).

According to the met office data - the mean daily maximum temperature for August is only around 20-21oC, with an overall mean closer to 16oC - so "above average" could mean as little as 22oC in the day and a 17oC average throughout the day/night........hardly a heatwave.

I wish there was some comeback on these headline grabbing stories - everyone has forgotten the week after, but it shows them to be such rubbish. It is heading towards being the most average August ever I suspect.

There is no comeback if the public keep buying it. Nathan Rao has made a lot of money spouting complete crap.

The reprint of the "Elvis is dead" headline today reminded me that I was on holiday near IOW when the news broke, and it was especially memorable for the incessant heavy rain that year. Indeed August 1977 had 200% of normal rainfall in parts of Southern England. The highest max. temps were high but nothing special, but what is surprising is how low the lowest minimums were.

Same here. Well, because I turned it on but still, that 1 degree made a difference.
Shut up, you right wing, seal-clubbing nutters, it's all in your mind, you're in denial!

I'm not lighting the fire during the day in August. This tool who said hottest august ever. Is he still in employment?

I paid my corp tax bill yesterday. It's nice to think that part of that goes to funding lying propagandists like that. We pay them to lie and deceive us! Bargain!
