I have 18's on mine with ps2 summers but am thinking of getting a winter set. Seen continentals, foal kens, michelins and pirellis anyone able to comment which suits best?

Also see some great offers on the bay for part worn does anyone have any experience buying from the tyre companies on there?

I've got a set of michelin alpin 4s that I run on mine in the winter (albeit 19 inch) and they are excellent.

You get a bit of squigiginess in the dry which is to be expected, but they are otherwise great and seem to wear well too.

Although they are pretty pricey. If you can afford it I'd go for them.

In the past I used fallen winters on my z4 and they were fine.

Really it comes down to budget, how hard you'll push the car and how often you'll use it.

Forget the part worns then, who would buy a tyre that someone else has finished with?

I have read on these pages before that winters are really loosing their effectiveness by the time they get down to 4mm. I dont know how true that is but its something to weigh up.

Snow and ice performance drops off significantly after 4mm, though naturally it's still better than a summer tyre of the same depth.

If you plan on using your M3 in snow and ice, I'd recommend buying new.

The Michelins are an excellent shout, they work:
