same place, same time

conclusion:

the 2014 cars sound better in reality than they do on TV which is make no more than a flat drone, but a very poor relation in comparison to what came before. An F1 car at full chat used to be something to marvel at. GP2 cars sound significantly better now. It doesn't have to be louder but they need to find a way to make a better noise.

This is exactly why I don't watch F1 anymore. They sound like hair dryers now.

Great, another engine noise thread.

You're 12 months late, your opinions aren't refreshing, original, interesting or insightful.

GP2 cars might be loud but the actual soundtrack is f*cking awful.

Here we go again.. laugh

The racing is better now that it was previously.

You can also hear the crowds and team radio clearly.

There is no need for stupidly loud engines, unless you live on a council estate.

Please consider locking this and if required simply make the most popular soundtrack thread sticky for a while if so many people really want to have a say. At least then any opinion will not simply be a repetition.

No they don't. I've listened to them, in the flesh, for three days every other week since January and I can assure you they don't sound like hairdriers or Flymos or anything else that people who have never heard one in real life keep moaning about.

Edit: Ah, I remember you now - you're the one who announced that the noise was the only thing about F1 that interested you. You've missed some damn good racing this year.

There's something fundamentally wrong that GP2 cars sound better these days.

The answer will probably be to make GP2 cars sound worse!

Why did you start another thread on this topic? There are at least three other threads where this topic is being or has been discussed (ad nauseum, I may add).

Why read topics that annoy you?

Why open topics that are superfluous?

I didn't come here to read the content. I came here to point out that the thread is unnecessary due to the fact that the debate has been well and truly discussed (to death, actually) in a number of other threads.

If you need assistance to find the other threads, here are some handy links -

It could well be argued that most threads on here are superfluous.

Well argued that man there.

P.S. I like the sound the turbo cars make. Different agreed, but OK to my old ears.

None of the huge variety of sounds made by GP Cars or Bikes since the 1950-60s have ever sounded so good as those.

Stop crying like babies. Its about the racing not the noise, especially when 99.9% of the F1 viewing public never actually go to a race.

Besides the V8's from previous years just seemed to be loud for the sake of being loud, didn't sound nice to me at all.

I suppose you're going to say next that people can't have an opinion that doesn't fall in line with yours...

My opinion is fact so anything else said is incorrect.

I wouldn't usually care, but it seems like every week we have another thread complaining about the noise.

F1 is audio-visual entertainment.

The visual is good (but heavily scripted).

The audio is bad (and sounds like a bland touring car).

F1 will always be popular, it is the peak of motorsport, and it is never going away -- but it is today veering into engineering-geek and American-wrestling-madeup-driver-wars territory and the mass-market is turning off as a result.

F1 needs to change.

I have to assume that you've only heard them on TV? They are far from a bland sound. In fact, it is interesting to hear the clear differences between the Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault units, which are all distinct. Within that there are the various grunts, whines and crackles that I've certainly never heard from a touring car.

They are certainly not very loud and I do miss the howl that one could always hear from the older cars, especially when they were far enough away not to be painfully noisy. Having said that, it is more pleasant to watch without ear plugs and being able to hear any commentary and hold a conversation.
