Crikey! I used to hate garlic, now I love it, very strange.

I was very disappointed to find the bulb of garlic I bought last night never actually made it into the carrier bag, damn thing must have rolled out somewhere. I was very short of garlic for last night's BBQ!

Best thing to do with massive bulbs of garlic:

- Slice the top of the whole bulb off, exposing the tops of all the individual cloves

- Drizzle on some olive oil

- Whang it a medium oven for about 30 mins till the cloves start to caramelise and bubble

- Put it on a plate in the middle of the table, all dive in and scoop out the individual cloves with a knife and spread them on crusty white bread.

I love garlic, as does my dad.

A few times I've been in to work the next day after making a rather garlicy curry and been told that I stink, I tend to throw a few more cloves in for good measure.

I remember a few years ago; after a particularly heavy garlic session the night before and going to the gym in the morning, upon getting into my stride on the running machine I noticed a rather pungeant smell, I thought "fk me someone has over done it with the garlic", until I realised that I was the only person nearby and it was me, it must have been strong to smell it on myself.

Had some garlic-rubbed toast this morning. With sliced tomatoes on top. Bruschetta al pomodoro, if you like.

I love garlic and hardly a day goes by without me using it in the evening meal. However I learned years ago about the after effects on breath and sweat. Then I heard, on some long ago cooking programme that if you slice each clove in half down the center and remove both the dormant root ball and green shoot you will not suffer clove revenge next day.
It works!

Grow your own. Amazing flavour, and it's a piece of piss to do.

I did this with an elephant garlic, then proceeded to eat the whole thing on my own with some bread. I felt so ill the next day it was unbelievable. Garlic seeping from every pore. I couldn't work it out. Then I googled and found I'd had a garlic hangover! Honestly wouldn't recommend anyone eating that much garlic!

When I roast my spuds, for the last half hour I throw in a handful of full cloves still in the skin. Caramelised, chewy, garlicky lovliness that sticks your teeth together like a curly wurly! Mmmmmmmm!
