Bus lane fine.
Discussion
Can anyone tell me when they restricted access to Nelson Mandella Place off of West George street please? I received a Charge Notice this morning for "driving in a bus lane". I'm not necessarily disputing this, but I can't recall seeng the signs. I've driven through there hundreds of time through the years, and I guess I wasn't looking for restriction signs.
The guy I spoke to on the phone stated that he 'thinks' this restriction came into force sometime in June of this year, I was caught on the 17th of July. £30 isn't the end of the world, but just annoyed with myself if I did actually miss the signs!!!

I pass there every day on my way home
There's writing across entrance, two signs on the poles showing buses & taxi's only, an illuminated sign on a trailer on left hand side at junction saying camera operating, West George st lanes re painted to reflect new priorities, temporary electronic signs as you cross renfield st, one way back on Bothwell st warning for weeks in advance and elswhere I am sure and I still see people driving through oblivious to new restrictions
Seemingly in first week camera was awitched on, Two weeks after restriction started 40 an hour were going through

Cruel I know but no sympathy

Well I'm looking at the photograph right now, and there's no illuminated trailer, and barely visible/small signs. Trailer must have been there for the initial implimentation? I guess I just wasn't expecting the restrictions and was driving far to complacently. Beautiful day, roof down, sun in my face, blah blah! Haha. As per the original post, I'm not bothered, just curious when the restrictions came into place, which has been answered.
Thanks for the input, but definetly not looking for sympathy, so please don't feel too bad for not offering any! Pmsl.
Got caught there too at the end of June. Not driving through Glasgow that often, and SatNav sent me right through it. Had some passengers in the car, which certainly added distraction, so when I've seen the buses & taxi's only signs I was almost in it. I decided it was safest to just drive through it rather than stop mid traffic and look for the proper way around.
Month later a bill over £30 arrived. Personally I was just surprised since when they use CCTV to monitor Bus Lanes in Scotland? (I thought they only do that in England?)

Glasgow has been well known for Bus Lane cameras for a few years. I know a few people getting caught.Month later a bill over £30 arrived. Personally I was just surprised since when they use CCTV to monitor Bus Lanes in Scotland? (I thought they only do that in England?)
Yup, I got stung by this one too, it's my first ticket, been driving 3 years so not that long but I feel like I'm normally switched on to this kind of thing, although going by the ridiculous amount of people getting caught (I saw an article quoting 700 a day), we're not the only ones.
£30 lesson, took it on the chin and moved on.

I nearly went through it also, 2 cars went through right in front of me but I pulled off to the right at the last minute. They implemented the system in the run up to the commonwealth games along with scores of traffic restrictions throughout the city, i'm not surprised they caught so many people out. You can stick up signs but in a packed city centre where your attention is on avoiding buses, mad taxi drivers and getting through blocked crossroads it's easy to mis them or misinterpret them give the route hasn't had restrictions before.

Are folk blind or is sign posting that bad?
Drove down West George St last night and into George Square and stand by my original comments on adequate signs
The road clearly splits into a buslane in middle with arrow/lanes pointing Left and right for cars as well as signs on poles at side of road and as you approach juction warning painted on road as well as signs either side of junction.
Drivers on auto pilot I think

The tally is up to 28,000 drivers in 2 months - £800,000 worth of fines!

Those numbers do suggest that there is a bit of an issue with the clarity of the signage.

Nah stll see folk stopped at lights BIG white letters on road and signs either side of traffic lights and still they drive through junction.
Yes there will be the odd driver following a bus or a stranger not sure where they are going but as I walk across that junction ever day and even point the signs out to folk at lights about to go through who still go through I do wonder about the average driver

When they set the new one up in Calder Road last year I got them through the door three days in a row. Very close to the end of the bus lane and very easy to move over for the next roundabout if traffic is stopped. Was seriously worried how many would come through the door as the first one was dated three weeks prior!
So don't beat yourself up over one. You're not as stupid as me

I don't think the signing is very clear or obvious from across the junction, in particular if you are behind other traffic or more likely buses, who can obstruct the signs on the road or ahead. The road markings are from memory facing AWAY from oncoming drivers. I think the signage is too small for the location and form of junction.
28,000 people in two months indicates that there is a significant issue with it. It may not justify the breach but it does indicate something is clearly wrong.
