Ok guys what are the plus points of a Tuscan S over a standard Tuscan apart from the extra power?

I have heard that the engines have better parts fitted is this true?

Looking to purchase a Mark 1,but some Mark1 Tuscan prices are very close to TuscanS prices so a little help/ guidance please.

Thanks
G.M

I bought a non-S becuase I love the purity of the original Mk 1 rear end shape and can live with not having a few more BHP or slightly better handling. I think the Mk 1 S looks like an aftermarket job with that spoiler and amended lights. Mk2 did a slightly better job. Long term value will probably better on a S due relative rarity. Haven't driven an S so can't speak for how much better the handling is than a late model non-S with the revised geometry and having Nitrons (as mine does). Don't believe there are any other differentiators.

The S has larger injectors, different cam timing and mapping, and larger bore exhaust. That's about it on the engine front.

Clever way by TVR to extract 10k from customers for larger injectors, different mapping and a fractionally wider exhaust.

Additionally the front brakes were larger.

+ air-con as standard
+ different rear end
+ front splitter

OP, in your position I would decide which rear end you prefer (if it matters), and then buy on condition rather than worrying about S or non-S. So many have had engine work by now that there is every chance it has had some upgrades along the way. "Better parts" is of course relative - I'm not aware of the S having superior quality internals in terms of longevity and chances are they will have been long since replaced anyway.

Believe it also has a CR box. I guess it comes down to how much you value performance above the 95th percentile vs aesthetic compromise through aero kit (you may even like that, I personally don't)

Yep wasnt counting the cosmetics as thats obvious. Just the bits that made the tangible difference.

Forgot the aircon as my non S Tuscan has that along with the Hydratrack diff which was standard on the S i believe.

I believe all of the following

Air con
front and rear splitters (for additional downforce)
Different rear lights
Larger front brakes
big bore exhaust system (same as Sagaris)
Larger injectors
Additional BHP 390 v 360 (I believe)
CR gearbox
Can't remember anymore.

If you like the look (and can afford it) get the S basically - but realistically power wise you probably won't notice any difference - e.g. go for a 4.3/4.5 standard over an S imo.

Thanks everyone,do prefer the rear of the Tuscan S,but always loved the Tuscan shape the engines used to put me off them. But seeing as that's now sorted and I get one with the rebuild already done(by Tvr Power preferably), just need to drive a few more including an S,and find one in the right colour/interior.
Driven four now and put an offer in on one,but the sellers holding out for his FULL asking price.

That became an option on later S models.

Don't flame me for this as it's only my 2 pennies smile

To me it's like saying if you'd rather get a BMW 335 I or M3 (though the power difference for the Tuscan isn't as big). The more expensive model was designed to be better, so why not get the better one?

As far as TVRS are concerned though it's usually better to look for a well maintained car.

3 years ago I was where you stand right now, I didn't know if I should get a Tuscan from RG that had exactly the color combo I wanted and was in mint conditions or a Tuscan S with an engine rebuilt from a PH member that needed a little respray but was obviously driven and wasn't the color I wanted to begin with.
Well I picked the Tuscan S and don't regret it.

What about considering a red rose, they had aircon, bigger brakes, hid headlamps and more power. You also do not have to have the ugly spoiler(my opinion on the spoiler)

Guess I am not the odd one here then. The spoiler isn't to my personal taste either. I had a standard tuscan and then bought the red rose by chance. I was actually really happy with the standard spec thinking I didn't need the extra power. Questioned myself if I should pay the extra money on the Red Rose. Power wise I won't say there is a huge difference, but the driving experience is far better for the red rose. Loving the CR box. It makes the acceleration so much more enjoyable and fun. Taller first gear and keep revving up 2nd, 3rd and4th. It brings me smiles every time Without fail. I believe the diff has also saved me in a couple of too close for comfort occasions on a tricky road conditions. Still love the Kylie's rear end of my car. Yes that is how I describe my car's rear end. wink
