What's the general consensus on these chaps?

Mrs isn't a petrol head and is coming from a Fiesta, she took a test drive yesterday, and likes the general size and drive, and as we have a junior MagicMike on the way, it's the practical choice for her.

So in terms of spec what should we go for, RSQ3 is out of the question as my current car terrifies her

Thanks

Michael

The petrols can be a bit thirsty so I would opt for a 2.0TDI manual SE.

The 1.4 TFSI could be worth a look, only came out a few months ago and reviews seem quite good. It's the Twincharged unit out of the Tiguan I believe

It's main negative is the dated underpinnings. Uses the 11 year old PQ35 platform from the old shape A3 and Mk5 Golf.

Or

  • VW Tiguan, recent facelift not sure of platform
  • Range Rover Evoque
  • Or if you spec your Q3-SE all the way to £40,000 then its got to be the Porsche Macan

I always thought these had the new floor pan (before the A3 had it)

No it was one of the last along with the Beetle and Jetta to use the old platform. Gives it a very short shelf life IMO, but residuals are proving strong as its a desirable badge.

Is the GLA or X1 worth a look too?

GLA yes, X1 is a bit long in the tooth and due replacement within next 18 months

Have you considered a Skoda Yeti?

I've never read a poor review on them and it'll cost way less than a Q3.

My Dads got this one here, its a 2.0 tdi quattro S Line, got to say I like it a lot - it does 40mpg, very large cabin I think for the size of car - gives that high up 4wd feeling without being too big. Its very stable too, i've taken it on a few long journeys and its a reasonably comfortable cruiser. Surprisingly (given I couldn;t stand them when they came out), i'd recommend one...
