As per title.

The end of the road is looming, has there been any news on what might follow?

It is supposed to be due out when, 2015? They must have some project for it. No leaks?

You're basing that on when the current one dies.

Nope, simply that saying there MUST be a new one out next year based on the fact that that's when the current one dies is a massive assumption.
If you want me to commit either way though I'd say a true replacement is unlikely. Been done to death in many threads down the years.
In an nutshell, all the thins that make Defender what it is are the very thing that are seeing it killed off....built by hand, extremely niche market, doesn't sit comfortably in the brand line up, isn't "safe" enough for 2015 etc. etc....

How about a pared down Disco, minimal electronics, no trick suspension, hose-out interior, utilitarian, steel bumpers, with a few Defender styling cues. Something people won't mind getting dirty and bashed (as much). For a orice about the same as the current Defender.

So....a Defender then?
Regardless of what may or may not replace the current Defender, there's nothing to say it'll follow on immediately, so assuming a replacement is due simply because the old one is on its way out is just that, an assumption.

I don't think there will be one.

I liked the concepts that they have released, but then LR said that those will not be the Defender replacement.

It wouldn't surprise me if they maybe manufacturer something like a Discovery Sport Double Cab and see if they can break into the double cab pick up Market (IE Amorak, Navara and the L200)

When this subject comes up on other LR forums, then general consensus is people want the same body, but with a truly modern interior that doesn't leak. I think they have got pretty close with the current TDCI engined Defenders, but I believe they can't carry on with those Defenders because of emissions and crash regs.

Re emissions - I understand the Defender TDCI engine is used in the Ford Transit and some London taxis too. Are they also being killed off?

Far more to it than simply emissions.

Defender production will continue abroad it seems where EU legislation does not apply

I'd have thought that the D3/4/RRS platform would provide a good base for a new Defender - the question is whether there's a big enough market to justify it when JLR can't build their premium lines fast enough to keep up with demand.

If anything was due next year we'd have seen it by now.

Mini Countryman, from £16k
LR Defender, from £23k
'bout the same foot print, Defender's taller.
Your point being?
