Hi guys.

Just recently got a very low milage 09 plate and am thinking of getting it remapped.

I have been told by Track and Road in Essex that I could easily expect gains of around 50bhp and up to 70nm torque.

Does anyone have experience with this company and remapping of this model?

I don't know much about cars and all this tuning etc as never done it but Im very impressed with this car in stock form and would love a bit more smile

Thanks in advance

First thought would be - what extra would the insurance company expect you to cough up for the extra performance, and would they require a tracker. Have you considered if you need to up the brake performance.

Not at all and this is all good info for me.

So, do I need to consider the brakes etc? Anything else?

Someone mentioned I may have to have a diverter valve or something????

Unlikely to need a tracker.
Both of my remapped S4s and my remapped RS4 weren't required to have them.

Brakes - whether or not you need them is determined by how you drive. If you drive like a nutter and suffers from failing brakes then you do need them. I didn't change the brakes on my cars.

Standard diverted valve will be fine. Aftermarket diverted are a nice little "upsell" for the tuner.

No experience with your tuner but would recommend using someone with their own rolling road.

Had a rubbish generic map on an S3 and 3 superb custom maps from MRC.

Mapping hiked the insurance premium by about 15% each time.

OK thanks.

I won't be doing the brakes.

A friend also mentioned the possibility of a turbo intake pipe being needed and a new air filter??

Are they the TFSI engines or the TSI?

Both have been well tuned either way.

Fitting a quality aftermarket intake (Evolution Motorsport is a good one) makes a world of difference with a remap and driving fun.

Think they are TSI actually, sold as TFSI by Audi

You don't NEED those but they can also improve performance.
It's a case of how car you want to go with modifications.

Most insurers will be happy to insure a remapped car. Many won't be interested if modifications go over and above that.

I'm not telling you NOT to tell your insurer but if you've bought the car second hand I doubt it would be very easy for them to prove it was you that had the remap done.

Any excuse and they'll increase your premium of course.

That's no excuse, they wouldn't pay out in that event anyway... it's not their responsibility.

I'm going to call BS there.

If you can show me a situation where an insurance company has denied payment on the basis of a modification the previous owner made and the new owner has no way of knowing about then I will retract.

Yes of course.

Same as you should wait for the green man to cross the road and only ever fit N Spec tyres to Porsche or it will explode.

Lol..........OK mate, plead the ignorance game.

It's up to you as a vehicle owner to ensure any modifications are declared.

How or where would I stand there but actually it does not matter lol as it not relevant.

I know its done as Im doing it smile

Quite. You do what you feel comfortable with OP, that is the most important thing and my point was more general rather than specific to you.

FWIW I've remapped all my FI cars. I sold my S3 back to the main dealer with a remap to 300bhp and the main dealer sold it on without re-flashing (I know this to be the case as I met the chap who bought it).

If you think any court in this land is going to side with the insurance company rather than an unwitting consumer who bought in good faith then you are in la la land.

Similarly, if you think insurance companies are in the habit of forensically examining ECUs in all but the most serious of cases then I think your tin foil hat must be rather jaunty.

Have you ever been involved with insurance companies following the aftermath of an accident, whether your fault or not, with regards to undisclosed modifications?
