The car is an R53 Cooper S 2003.

Can I take the sump off in situ as the drain plug is welded in, thanks to the previous owner, and it's going to need helicoiling. Don't fancy doing this under the car.

Thanks

Tim

Yes but you need to take the aux belt off, rear engine mount, and then it can be taken off

You might also take the oil out with a pump.

Or weld a new aluminium boss to the sump and then drill and tap it in situe

Yes, and if it has a/c the compressor will have to be detached, not necessarily removed, just tie it forward and release the tiny wire from the top first so you get room to move it with pipes connected. Pull the engine back a bit after rear mount removed, and all good.
