I drove through Belgium to get to Reims. (I'd managed to input no tolls on my Sat Nav).
In my opinion either follow the autoroute and pay the toll, or be cleverer than me and enjoy the old main road that follows the autoroute and not have to pay.
To say the roads in Belguim and traffic are both horrendous is an understatement. I had to renew parts of my suspension when I got back from my Euro trip, and I still believe it was the fault of the Belguim roads to Reims.

We left on the 9th so didnt see your post
I chose the Belgium route , well Belgium, Luxembourg, France, still used toll roads in France but only for a short way
Yes you are right the roads were pretty awful in places but there was a lot of roadworks going on. We made good time and covered the 330miles in 5 hours with a short stop. One thing I hadnt taken into account was the speed limit in Belgium being 120kmh rather than 130kmh
