Definitely sold on an RX100, thanks guys. Hopefully selling my old Lumix will net a little cash too, on the eBay hunt now.

I have created the following image so we can shorten these threads every time they come up from now on...

biggrin

But seriously, just buy one.

I had a Mk1 and loved it that much that I bought the Mk3 as soon as it came out.

Absolutely amazing little camera.

Some amateur shots by me using my old Mk1 RX100. If a goon like me can use one then it's all good.

Good plan O/P

Them there are taking the piss out of me... (rightly so) but they know what I mean... It's an EV, but as Sony says:

Clear, High-Precision Built-in EVF with ZEISS T* Coating
Largely based off of customer feedback on existing RX100 series cameras (RX100 and RX100II), the new RX100 III adds a versatile, high-quality OLED Tru-Finder™ electronic viewfinder. The EVF has an impressive 1.4 million dot resolution, adding exceptional brightness and clarity to the overall framing and viewing experience, and handily pops in and out of the top of the camera body based on shooting preferences. This allows the camera to operate in the traditional ‘rangefinder’ style without sacrificing any of its portability or compactness.

Absolutely. Photography for me is all about accessibility, I get my best 'people' shots when on holiday covertly, off to S America next month and really fancy something that goes in my jacket pocket when trekking to capture the moments- quality looks almost better than my Lumix too and I'm not a good enough photographer to ever push it's limits hehe

My 30 month old v-Lux 40 has a problem with the lens,
it has been returned to Leica,
they are unable to repair so have offered a new camera replacement free of charge.

I have the choice of a Leica C or a Leica D-Lux 6

opted for the D-lux 6 with its 24-90mm, f1.4-2.3 looking forward to a play later this week when it is delivered.

I really don't like to criticise peoples purchases on PH, but I really, really don't get these models of Leica.

The D-Lux 6 is a £289 Panasonic LX7.

Yet Leica seem to ask people for £600 for it and they simply hand it over.

Does not compute.

Free replacement after 2.5 years seems like a decent deal though. I suppose one might think of the extra cost as an extended warranty?

Will they succumb to demand and introduce an upgrade option that adds a Red Spot? Maybe with a clip on cover for those who seek occasional relief from the attention of ne'r-do-wells?

I have a Panasonic DMC LF1 which I like a lot. When I was on my hols in the sun, I rarely used it other than with the viewfinder. I'd hate to go back to a camera without one.

If it's a Leica you really want then buy one...simple, but if you want a top notch compact just like a Leica buy a Panasonic Lumix LX7 and with the money you save splash out on the fabulous Electronic View Finder for it....a stunning combination.

Camera Gods, I have an Ixus 75 that is getting a bit battered and bruised, would an RX100 be a good replacement, would a point and shoot kind of a guy get better pictures from it and as they are on offer for 300 quid in Currys, is there anything else to look at in that price range?

All Hail the Camera Gods, etc

RX100 is the best compact out there at the moment. Buy it.

Right, I've bought an RX100 since I think a few people here thought it a good idea hehe

£349 from Jessops (£50 cashback from Sony also) and, most importantly for my man maths, 6 months interests free credit!

What size memory cards would you people go for, and do I need Class 10 for mainly stills?

I have a 16gb sandisk extreme in mine... never had an issue or run out of space.
