Hi Chris
The fitting kit a must, every bolt on the cat flanges snapped like a carrot, and that was after soaking them with WD morning and evening from Tuesday to Saturday. The top bolt is a dog to get to, there was some blood and swearing when they cracked. All said the pipe is a near perfect fit and the stickers even match for my Guards Red car.
I am struggling with the Video I have done before and after cold starts but to me they do not capture the sound difference. Tonight was the first chance to get the car warmed up and use a few revs and it certainly has a more Porsche sound. I will do another video with the car warm and under acceleration. Posting the video is another challenge as YouTube does not accept my cameras format, I'll get there eventually.
That's why we decided to supply and include the additional UK fitting kit which includes the new stainless steel bolts & nuts. That way the problem of corrosion is removed for good! Suggested that Sharkwerks included the additional fitting kit but apparently corrosion isn't such an issue in California!

Looking forward to the videos once you've had chance to load them up....

johnny-b - what's your view, worth it on a non-PSE?

Yes, worth it.
Having used the car quite a lot last week the sound is just right, for me, not too in your face at tickover but noticeably louder however when accelerating it comes in with a definite top end rasp just sounds more Porsche.
I am hanging my head in shame not being able to post videos I did not realise how difficult it would be!
So my view is go for it, it did cost me an extra £11.66 on my insurance premium, if you are anywhere near ABP let them fit it they know what they are doing and the top bolts without a crescent shaped spanner are nearly impossible.

Hi Jonny

We're asked weekly how it sounds on a non PSE 997.2 and although we've now supplied around 4 to non PSE cars they have all been sent out mail order so we've had no opportunity to listen to one before and after. If you do work out how to post the videos I would love to hear them although I appreciate that videos rarely replicate the actual sound in the flesh.

Glad you are happy with the Sharkwerks,

Chris

Chris - what if you post a video of your car with PSE turned off and we non-PSE owners can try to replicate?

Don't hold me to this but i'm 99% certain that a car fitted with a PSE and valves closed (quiet position) produces a different noise than a non PSE equipped car anyway so it really wouldn't provide a worthwhile comparison...

We had the pleasure of fitting a Sharkwerks bypass on d11fdj's car today - a lovely 997.2 C2S cab without PSE so I finally got to hear a before and after on a car without PSE.

The bypass fitted perfectly and I was pleasantly surprised by the very noticeable sound improvement provided. OK - not as good as a car with PSE & Sharkwerks bypass but still a very good soundtrack improvement and releasing a more '911 like noise.

So using a simple scoring system this is how I would rate the sound:
997.2 DFi engine without PSE 3/10
997.2 DFi engine without PSE and Sharkwerks bypass 6/10
997.2 DFi engine WITH PSE (valves closed) 4/10
997.2 DFi engine WITH PSE (valves open) 6/10
997.2 DFi engine WITH PSE & Sharkwerks bypass (valves closed) 6/10
997.2 DFi engine WITH PSE & Sharkwerks bypass (valves open) 8/10

I have videos before and after of this non PSE car from today and hope to get them uploaded over the weekend. This should make the decision for those sitting on the fence a lot easier!

Hi Chris
I will be interested to see/hear if your video managed to capture the sound better than mine! I couldn't post it anyway!
If anyone is interested in this conversion on a none PSE car east of the Pennines mine will be at the Lotherton Hall Porsche meet on Sunday give me a shout and have a listen.

FWIW I had one fitted yesterday (I have the PSE). Haven't had the chance to drive it properly yet but it makes a marked difference with the valves shut. In fact at lower revs I think the button had less impact than it did. Wil go for a proper drive later but if you have a non PSE car I think this mod is a no brainer - although I'd be tempted to do the side cans as well....

Appreciate that but the exhaust is quite a lot different on the mid engined Cayman to the rear engined 997.2 which is why the Cayman sounds a lot better than the DFi 997.2.

I think the DFi Cayman sounds a lot better than the 997.2 but that's no compliment as the standard 997.2 sounds way too quiet!

Send Jens Ehresmann in dusseldorf an email, they really are world-leading.
Cargraphic wants to buy his ECUs, these guys are dealing on automotive level, they got 997/9x1 development ECUs from Porsche etc...

he will sort you out with M&M ( manthey ) 100% handcrafted exhausts with unparalelled power and sound.
My Cayman R went from 315 til 371 bhp with a remap and zorst.

Good prices too, say hello from Axel and you might even get a little discount wink ( or is it the other way around hehe )

Thanks for posting Chris, seems like there is a marginal difference between the standard and the Sharkwerks options on a non PSE. Although, slightly disappointing how much.
