An acquaintance who shudders at the mere mention of a computer has asked me to advertise his M3 for him, and I'm stumped as to what price I should advertise it at - was wondering if anyone could help?

The car is a 1998 Evo on an S reg, 31k miles from new, climate control, sunroof, extended leather, a braided steel clutch hose from Bexley Motor Works, metallic (Fern or Boston) green with Daytona tan leather.

I was thinking of going on what other people were asking, but this car seems to be fairly unique in that it has been ridiculously under used and is an individual spec. Any help greatly appreciated!

That's more of a car and classic advert than autotrader.

Great low miles nice spec it should fetch a very good price.

Hexagon will cling film the seat and then sell it for £145,000.

You mention nothing about service history, but if it's been correctly serviced then I'd be putting it up at £9995, what does he want for it?.

Agreed, service history is vital, a car that's sat unused and unserviced is likely to throw up some serious bills.

Its a shame its the least loved colour, and the leather colour will put people off.

Punt it around some of the dealers (Hexagon, 4Star etc), You may get lucky, or wack it up at around 10K

Thanks for the help guys! Can definitely appreciate the Hexagon comment from what I've seen... Car has full service history and had oil and filter change with Castrol Edge 2 weeks ago, had the air con condenser replaced last year due to leaking gas as well I believe... Agree on the spec, is a bit marmite! Lovely condition though, can smell the leather when you open the door. I'll pass on the advice and see what he thinks! Cheers guys and gals

That must be a 10k plus car. Given Munich Legends are asking 22k for a GT2

Sounds lovely, id be interested. The colour puts me off a bit but the condition sounds good.

The issue is that in practically every way the e46 is better, £10k gets a nice e46 m3 with lowish miles so the person buying a 16 year old e36 for big money rather than £3k will be rare.

Hexagon et al seem dear.

Id be interested for £8k if it all checks out (history, low ish owners, good tyres, full mot, not needing anything etc)

My thoughts are to start at approx £10k and see how you get on. To echo what others have said, do try Hexagon, 4 Star, Munich Legends etc, you should hopefully get a good feel for what it is worth and you might be surprised. Also might be worth trying Sytner in Nottingham, they have recently been paying strong money for a couple of Z3 M coupes and I know they have sold a couple of low mileage E36's recently (last 12 months). They will buy older cars, but I get the impression they have to be quite special.

Personally I would love that colour combo, but I will most definitely be in the minority!

The E36 M3 vs E46 M3 debate has been done too death now, both cars have there plus and minus points but one thing is certain, the E36 M3 is now a much rarer sight on UK roads with many folk hankering after the older E36.

I reckon it's worth 14,995 with the right marketing and prep etc.Colour and spec are fine as that's a personal thing..Try Munich Legends, their always after low mileage M cars and last time I was down there they said how difficult good E36 M3's are too find now in A1 condition with genuine low miles...when they do find them they always seem to sell quickly..

Sorry but you won't get a lowish miles nice E46 M3 for £10k
Lowish miles being sub 40k mileage.
Looking at £15-20k
Seem the odd one at £12k

And selling it to you for £8k is a giveaway !!

OP
Nice Car nice spec
I would say £15k-20k
£20k at a push if you are lucky
I would look at adverts for similar mileage , condition and use them as gauge
Is the history FBMWSH ?
If you want a quick sale hassle free and strong money contact Hexagon Moderns, Synter Group Buyer as these pay good money for BMW M cars
If you want Sale or Return try Munich Legends (they have 22k mileage M3 Evolution Imola Indivdual "GT2") from Tim Huggnet collection for £22k and they often achieve top money for their cars. With them I think you could get £20k. Also try Four Star Classics.
Seems like your friend has a very nice car.
E36/E46 M3 market prices overlap just like E46/E92 M3 market prices overlap

Wow thanks for all the help guys! As I thought there seems to be a varying opinion of value, and due to the lack of similar cars (only other similar mileage/condition seems to be a convertible and GT2s). Saw my man last night, has BMW SH up until 2005 when the second owner passed it to the third and it was then serviced by their relative's garage. I now have some leads to follow up on so thankyou!

Having researched things more then yes, I was wrong and its worth more.

I was looking for a coupe and you cant get a good one for love nor money. Manual coupes in mint condition are rarer than mint e30 m3s!

Personally I'm going for a gt2 as I love the colour, interior and exclusivity so this one isnt for me but knowing what I now know I bet someone would pay £20k.
