After a bit of a wait I had my newest watch arrive today. Exclusive to serving and ex-serving members this watch was a bit of a 'what the hell' purchase for old times sake rather than a watch I actually wanted. The media images didn't really do the watch any favours and I really wasn't keen on the Corps colours splashed across the face. That said, it's here and I'm chuffed to bits with it. It really is a fine piece of work and so much better than I'd hoped for. I got number 311 / 350 too, which is my birthday: 3rd Nov.

Nice freebie T-shirt in the box was a nice surprise. The slogan is quite apt given my last 12 months too!

Nicely packaged:

Nice touches inside:

Gets even better. Lovely 'new leather' smell:

Mini tool kit and spare strap:

Bremont NATO. I've got a Corps colours NATO at home which I'll fit i think:

And here's the first glance with the optioned leather strap:

More detail: Note the 507m / 1664ft depth. 1664 is the birth year of the Royal Marines.

Every time piece is reguistered to its new owner after vetting by the Royal Marines board. It then gets assigned a serial number and your service number engraved:

Looking at the previous Bremont commissions I'm hoping this will be a good investment. My service in the Marines did have some documented inputs from my time in Afghanistan so a bit of owner history won't do its value any harm.

Very nice, just need them to do one for us Sappers now!

Are you watching the basic training documentary on the TV at the minute?

Really amusing, take you right back.

No!! I'm avoiding that one. I watched the first episode and felt a bit disappointed. I'm wouldn't normally say 'it was harder back in my day', but i think because of all the PC / H&S / nanny state / accountability issues we have as a nation the training can't be as hard as it used to be. The tests are as hard as ever but the psychological torture you had to endure from day 1 to the end is lost these days. I saw the recruits on that programme laughing behind the backs of the training team and remembered back to when i was going through. If we'd done that i can 100% say that 2 things would have happened: first off you would have received a full on punch in the face from the Cpl. Secondly the whole troop would have been thrashed for your idiocy and then they'd have beaten the st out of you on return to the accommodation. That's what instils proper loyalty in the services. Fear of your peers and respect for your fellow soldier.

Anyway. Enough of that. lol

You may already be aware of this but if you fancy other strap options have a look at GasGasBones. Carl supplies Bremont with their fabric straps, he does some leatherwork as well.

Seen! This is my only leather at the moment so I may just do that. Still awaiting the arrival of my cost price Pelagos and the collection will be complete.

Looks great - congratulations. Always liked the Supermarine. Interesting that this comes in the normal Bremont wallet - I thought the Supermarines usually came in the leather tube packaging. Guess it's different for mil. editions?

I would get that on a Zulu ASAP - my MBII has never been on the leather strap, as it's too short for me and the watch just seems to suit a NATO / Zulu much better. The Bremont NATO is nice, but never really worn it much as I used to find the 'loose' end of the strap would get caught on things and start to unfasten the velcro so was always worried about it falling off.

Anyway, great piece - enjoy!

Interestingly it seems that Bremont have changed supplier of their NATO straps (which I`m a BIG fan of) if you go into the Bremont shop in Mayfair you can`t buy one, they said that they were unhappy with the quality, sent the existing stock back to the supplier and are waiting for new stock to arrive, I was told 3 months till new stock arrives and that was about 3 weeks ago!

They also said that the supplier of the sub-standard straps WASN`T GAS GAS!

Copycat! (Your pics are loads better than mine btw!)

Mine came in the leather tube which was inside a large box. Glad you are happy with it as you said you had doubts about it from the promotional pics.

Be interested to know what book you are in. No doubt youve been crated already by your oppos

I was in quite a few books and loads of newspapers. It wasn't anything crazy, no VC's won, just media team taking an interest when publicity was in our favour. I spent a good stint in Garmsir so every day was a shoot'em up! My multiple was renamed TiC 1-zero.

H5. Best of the tours as it was still very much a 'go out and look for a fight' situation.
