Had one of these for years, 10 at least, perfectly happy with it:

(Probably cheaper online somewhere)

My toaster broke this week too. The best replacement options for me were this for a 'normal' toaster, or this for a long slot toaster (which I prefer). Then realising that all modern toasters are rubbish I repaired my 30 year old one which is better than anything I could buy.

Have a look at light commercial toasters on nisbets online and see if they're available cheaper. There are some interesting and less predictable ones.

Seemed poor quality build against my 15 yrs old Russell
Hobbs (considering it ain't a premium brand) .... Having a bit more money then I did 15 years ago I would consider Rowlett .... BUT bang for buck with a bit of super glue after 15 years the old girl keeps going and looks great

A £100 toaster is considered middle of the road?

Indeed?

It's just rows of elements that heat up and cook bread FFS, how can any toaster that works not be considered a good toaster?!

P.S. I've had one of these (also available in 4 slice and WELL in budget at £40) for 12 or so years, still looks like new and the end product is delicious, obviously not as tasty as toast from a Dualit wink

I bought a 'designer-looking' brushed steel toaster and kettle bundle for £30 from Robert Dyas six years ago.

The kettle leaked after about three years, but yet the toaster refuses to give up. Not bad for cheap Chinese shiite.

Bread doesn't fit
Insufficient power
Covered in LEDs
Tacky faux 50s Americana styling

All make for a bad toaster. An astonishing number of them fail on one or more points.

I bought a tesco's own brand 2 slice toaster about 7 yrs ago, still going strong.
£100 on a toaster=madness. imo.

Magimix, Dualit or KitchenAid all well into the £100+ bracket for a 4 slice job, looking at John Lewis

I'm still yet to find one where I dot have to turn the bread upside down half way through. Perhaps I'm not spending enough.

Bloody hell. £100 for a toaster? yikes

I'll never again see an Audi R8 without wondering which toaster he uses. hehe
