Looking to have this process done on a race car gear set and some engine components, has anybody found any benefits or any problems with it?

We use shot peened and REM superfinished gears and had great results, we had a problem with 2nd gear failure that could not be changed due to homologation issues and since having the specific ratio treated have not had another failure. We had the work done by a company called Sandwell.

Were the gears shot peened first? Or different processes on different gears? Thanks.

Do the gears engage smoother at all? The reason I ask is that i'm about to rebuild a bike engine and there are many words to describe Triumphs' joke of a gearbox and none of them are repeatable in polite company.

I've thought about this in the hope it will help smooth the gearchanges a bit.

The gears are shot peened first then REM finished (super polished), the process reduces friction between the tooth faces which in turn lowers the temperature and reduces stress on the teeth, the problem we had was with teeth breaking off.
