Worst fears realized

If this is true, Aston and AMG are shameful liars, and everything I've been worried about is happening. I'll have ZERO interest in an "Aston" that is powered by a retuned off-the-shelf AMG engine. When they announced the AMG deal, they clearly stated the engines would be "bespoke" for Aston Martin. NOTHING about this is bespoke. A massive, massive shame. I'm sure Benz platforms are next...

I said as much about the last Autocar rendering but let us not panic"this Autocar image shows how it might look...."
So why are we worried about what Autocar think it might look like? I am sure AM will not cock up the styling. What we do not know is exactly what will be under the skin and the sense of DNA we will or will not feel when sitting in it
And it is not bespoke but it is bespoke!
"AMG will not provide a bespoke version for Aston. Instead, off-the-shelf engines will be modified to sound, respond and feel like an Aston Martin engine.
Modifications would extend to bespoke engine management and exhaust systems and possibly revised turbo boost pressures..."
That would probably do the trick without changing engine internals. The biggest change will be away from NA and there is not a lot they can do about that other than try to engineer the best from it for AM purposes as above

AMG will not provide bespoke engines to AM?
Surely the whole strategy behind this is to avoid the development of a new engine to be built in small numbers because of costs so what's new?
My understanding was that they would take an existing AMG engine as the base material and fiddle around a bit to give it some unique AM features. Isn't that how we got the current V8 and V12 engines - they have their origins in other manufacturers (Ford?) and were made unique by AM engineers?

I for one was never under the impression that AMG would let Aston fiddle with their engines but more the ECU, boost pressures, exhaust etc. Quite frankly, I am not sure how Aston would feel they could improve on an engine supplied by AMG anyway. It is a bit different utilising an AMG engine than it is taking a Jag block or two Ford V6s and modifying them to Aston requirements.
As this is being discussed extensively on several threads on the AMOC forum I will repeat what I said there.
I don't yet see any reason to fear the Mercedes takeover at Aston Martin. Indeed, to me it appears to be a better match than were Ford. However when Ford took over the company was in desperate need of saving and the DB7 certainly achieved that, and despite what some may say, it's still one of the nicest looking Astons to my eyes. Aston Martin now find themselves in the same position with aging engines and platforms and I fail to see any alternative nor indeed do I understand why Mercedes is not a good owner for AML. Maybe I'm missing the point in which case I'm all willing to listen but people who say they want a thoroughbred British built car are deluding themselves, those days are long gone.

It may well be going a lot further than the engines.........

I'm with you Rich. When I wander into the garage I think WOW. I certainly don't stand there wondering about the component parts.
