PH and HPI launch 'Seller's Check'

Private sellers on PH can now offer an HPI report with their cars

Anyone who has been duped into buying a car registered as a Cat C or Cat D (it's even happened to member of the PH team) will know the value of an HPI check. Twenty pounds at purchase can be the best money ever spent on a car.

Now PistonHeads is working with HPI to offer private vendors in the classifieds a Seller's Check with their car. Select the option on listing the ad and an HPI check will be made available to an unlimited number of buyers for the 30 days your ad lasts. Therefore potential buyers can compare the status of a number of cars without paying for individual HPI checks. When it comes to the sale of your car, the HPI certificate can be included in the final transaction for a £20 cost to the seller.

The Seller's Check includes all the standard HPI info, letting a potential buyer know the car has not been stolen or written off, that no finance is outstanding and that the mileage is genuine.

Shane Teskey is HPI's Senior Consumer Services Manager and probably explains it better: "Conducting the proper provenance checks before a purchase is vital. The new HPI Seller's Check will speed up that process dramatically as it holds up a big flag to any buyers looking for a car saying "I'm trustworthy and here to do business" - something which will make all buyers stop and take notice."

I was offered this when selling my car on here recently but didn't need it because it went rapidly anyway. smile Can see the logic in it, I know my buyer had one done before collecting; the HPI guarantee is invaluable in these days of logbook loans etc.

Is it as detailed as a normal check I would do through HPI and pay £20 for?

It does appear to be a genuinely good idea and a unique advantage compared to others such as 'bay or Auto Trader.

Nice touch.

Not a bad idea though you can bulk buy HPI checks for much less and just email the pdf to prospective buyers.

Fine, as long as the buyer trusts a pdf from a stranger.
