Hi,

I was wondering if there was a secure compound or enthusiast's storage area around Hertfordshire to keep your cherished car?

I have a car that I am not keen on keeping on my driveway long term and the thought of a secure place to keep the car, perhaps a place shared with similar enthusiasts would be an ideal solution.

Does anybody here use this sort of service?

Thanks,
Joe

I was looking for somewhere similar in Bedfordshire for my Lotus, I ended up renting a garage from the local housing association.... so far so good.

I've been looking for something similar but can't find much. There are a couple of classic car storage type places e.g. http://www.hertsclassiccarstorage.co.uk/ but it depends where you are in Herts (sure I found somewhere over East herts somewhere too), and how deep your pockets are....

I can rent a garage in a block around Hemel for less than £10 a week or the above car storage is over £100 a month. I know there is no comparison in terms of safety and environment but that is a fair old difference all the same.

Thanks for that tip Dr, I also looked at a local block of rented garage units and although the value looked great the issue I am not comfortable with is driving through the residential estate before the garage block in a yellow Fcar with a Tubi.

I will give that company a bell today.

It's not quite Hertfordshire but I can help you with storage around Milton Keynes and Buckingham (which is local to some parts of Hertfordshire). Let me know if you need any help buddy smile

Hi mate,

I am happy to hear more, can you send me over some details? My email address is: tokyo.silvia@gmail.com

The Herts storage company sound perfect but they are looking for £1750 per annum which seems a steep price for a place to safely park..

It's a shame I'm not setup closer to you guys! Having said, it all depends on how you intend to use the car while it's sitting in storage.

My furthest afield PHer client is stationed in the far east but he's not back for another 9 months where as the furthest UK based are Northampton/Suffolk & pop down every month or two. However our local chaps are down almost every fortnight to take theirs out as I keep nudging them to make time to take the car for a run, it'll only do it good! hehe

But ultimately it's an asset for a lot of people as well as a source of massive enjoyment - I've just had a chap give up 2 council garages & move his cars into storage with me as the council lockups always had issues with damp, incredibly tight squeeze inside & just a pain to use. The only reason he visited there was to just ensure the cars were still "ok" either from theft or weather conditions.

Either way...Go professional if you can but just try nab a deal, & also ensure they're flexible enough to accommodate you wanting to take the car out with at least 24hrs notice.

Along these lines, just been talking to a chap who's looking at taking on warehouse type unit to work on his 3 racecars. The one he's got his eye on has space for around 10 cars, which is more than he needs; it's in Bedfordshire, near The Flying Horse in Clophill. He was asking me if I needed any more space, or knew of anyone who did so he could 'sublet' it. Place has good security but would need your own insurance to cover your car and if you ask him to deliver your car/collect you from the nearest airport, expect a fairly robust reply..

That sound very interesting as I only live a few miles from the Flying Horse, I suspect it would be a lot more expensive than my £10 a week housing association rented garage tho...

Any updates on this? I would be very interested.

Almost 9 months later - I may have something opening up for a limited number of PH'ers in about 2/3 months time, just in time for the winter. The location is looking likely to be Royston in Herts. If there is any interested PH'ers, if you can drop me a message and I'll keep you informed on things as they progress.

Evening chaps - A further update.

The warehouse can take in cars from 4 weeks time, it will be based out of Royston...& we already have 2 lovelies booked in. If you would like to nab a spot or have the winter in mind, drop me a message and I can confirm pricing.

Spaces are limited to around 10, 12 cars at a squeeze.
