I didnt grind much upgrades but the gun depression meant you were always exposed , undergunned, and tbh it has shockingly poor armour. dont think I had one half decent game in it.
I thought it was comperable to the dw2 but with a grind that would go on for decades and I hate not contributing to teams for that long.
The gun depression is the same (-5) as the IS-3 and the IS.I thought it was comperable to the dw2 but with a grind that would go on for decades and I hate not contributing to teams for that long.
The IS-8 can has better hull armour, but worse turret armour than an IS-3, but it's usually a bad idea to shoot the turret anyway.
It's a bit weak with the BL-9 gun from the IS-3, but the top M62 gun rocks. The ST-I and IS-4 both use the same gun, but have slower reloads.
You can skip the suspension, second turret and top engine until you have the top gun.
I've just played my first match with some Turtle Beach headphones on, what an incredible experience. In particular, the directional bass booms when guns fire is amazing - I could hear where the enemy arty was without needing to see his tracers! Sadly I never got put this to good use as an E-75 smashed my IS to bits.
I've just had a 7 kill match on Prok in my S35 739f. World of Seals, brah.

I think I'd jump out of my skin if an arty round landed nearby while I had headphones on.
It's bad enough with the ridiculous Michael Bay sound effects when you shoot a train or run over some oil drums. They're toning these down in the next patch apparently.
Have you noticed that when you run over a line of bikes it makes a bike bell sound.

You should try headphones when some bugger sneaks up behind you in his SU100Y and shoots over your shoulder ...
Gave me one heck of a fright first time I drove over some ammo boxes (or whatever they are) too - it was on himmelsdorf near the south cap, heading towards the railway lines. Thought I was dead, size of the explosion and noise...

SU-100Y have stronk 130 mm cannon!
After playing the "new" KV-1S a few times I've decided the derp gun is not the way to go. It's just too unreliable.
450 average damage is total BS. I had the side of a TOG and hit it with 7 shots in a row; None of them rolled above 125 damage.
So sod that, I've gone back to the 85mm gun from the KV-1. It has over twice the rate of fire of the derp and does more actual damage.
I play it like a quicker KV-1, which is what it was in real life.

I felt that way about the KV-1. I was getting into tier 6 and 7 games all the damn time, where it's really hard to contribute and the armour is ineffective. So although the KV-1S has less armour, it has much better speed and & manoeuvrability to avoid getting hit in the first place. It still gets into tier 6 & 7 games all the time, but it's easier to play.
Welcome
Best tip honestly is just enjoy the game and have fun - so long as you're doing that then the rest is easy..
In terms of specifics then the best I can come up with is
- Join the PH clan, VBRJ, lots of nice people to play with and thats the best way to learn.
- Ask lots of questions, there's a lot to take in.
- Patience is key - rushing around a la call of duty just gets you deadded first.
- Cover is your best friend, always keep close to rocks / houses and hills so you can duck behind them if getting shot at.
- If you have to get shot, then try to make people shoot the front of your tank, the best armour is there almost always.
-The spotting system in the game is odd - just because you cant see people doesn't mean they cant see you so keep that in mind when driving around in the open. If there is somewhere big and open in the middle of the map chances are the enemy is looking at it, especially in the early stages of the game.
-The Russian tech tree is probably the best to learn in, so play a few different lines in that at first to get a feel for the game.
-Did I mention make sure to have fun?
-Don't worry about paying for a premium account at first, don't really need it and the extra xp just levels you up too quickly at first.
There's a whole bunch more, but it won't really mean much until you get more used to the game I guess.
Happy tanking

Right, the first thing I did once I had my BT Infinity was to install this game.
A complete beginner - still trying to get my head round everything!
Any tips?!

The above link will be your best friend. Read the basic tactics guide, and read into "Sidescraping", "Hull down" "Angling" etc. Understand how the penetration and spotting mechanics work and how different ammo types have different uses. If on the Xbox (or PC, they probably have similar) do the training mission and watch all the tutorial videos. Early on, learn not to rush, even when you are in a top tier tank (IE, the strongest rank of vehicle in the battle, split into ten tiers), as the first one at the front is often the first one dead if you don't play carefully.
This game is as much about skill as it is tactical decision making. It's more like paper rock scissors crossed with chess, and the chess pieces are tanks. I'm not an amazing player, but my recent stats put me around a 56% winrate, I was terrible when I started early and despite what you may think, you can't maximise your potential by simply playing more, you must only play smarter. To this end, watch video tutorials from Quickybaby on youtube and every time you buy a new tank, go onto the wiki and read about it.
Once you've got some practice under your belt, consider buying a premium tank to increase your earning power, as you will often find yourself wanting more silver (the in-game currency earned by playing matches). The economy in this game is very finely balanced - you will probably find yourself buying new upgrades, tanks and equipment as quickly as you can earn the money to purchase them. Having a premium tank will massively increase your earning power.
They nerfed the T18 in a recent patch. It used to be ridiculously over powered, now it's just over powered.
One tip I forgot, is buy some binoculars as soon as you can afford to. You only need one pair as you can switch them between tanks for free. They will boost your view range by 25% after you are stationary for 3 seconds. It's a safe bet that most people at low tiers will not have them, so it will give you a nice edge. You'll get more spotting done too.
A camouflage net is a good idea as well. That can also be swapped around for free. On a light or medium tank (like the British tier 1), they'll give you a 10% camo bonus. Camo paint is worth having and it's very cheap at low tier. 10K silver for a month IIRC.
Oh and the top gun in a tank's research tree is not necessarily the best one to use. The stock gun on the German tier 1 Leichtractor is the one to go for I suggest.

Here's a review of the "Fury" Sherman tank:

It'll be out on the EU server next week.
Most tier 6 premiums are £10-£12, but somehow I imagine this will be a lot more than that. It does come with a 100% crew and 2,600 gold though.

As I understand it, it will be sold through a promotional bundle, which on the Xbox cost about £27. I believe that as a rare tank, it's not intended that they will sell it as a standalone tank, and once the promo period is over, it's gone for good. The Fury event on the Xbox has operations with 70 day time limits, and the tank was around for a week at least before those ops began, so expect to be able to deliberate over purchasing it for a while.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM5wBCmgJ8w&li...

Also, to any new players, a big part of WOT is rage. Raging so hard you want to put your foot through your TV. Like when you're in your Panzer 38H, smashing everything in sight and the rest of your team flop around like lame ducks. You can only do so much in these situations, and you will rage. Just try to take as many with you as you can.
