I want them to fk off and not nuke my entire site from orbit.

I've had too many 1k plus damage rolls flatten my t8 tanks in the last few days.

What do you want from your arty? US arty is pretty much the best at every tier perhaps 7 and 10, where they're beaten out by the GwPanther and Conqueror Gun Carriage. US get big guns early on and have solid gun handling and mobility. The Britih get pathetic guns until the top gun on the tier 9.
Not sure what I want really, just some fun and to learn a little more about arty, and knock some of the missions off (but not all probably). Might have a look at the US ones.

Know what you mean. There is no defence it seems. They can nuke you from orbit and you cannot retaliate. Yes perhaps you can hide behind a rock if you are lucky but you cannot win a game from behind a rock. The whole mechanics is stupid.

It's worth playing arty just to learn its limitations (which are numerous and not always immediately obvious).

I've played several hundred games in arty up to T8, I understand them well and often enjoyed the game-play. The problem is that that enjoyment is very one sided. Take for example a game I had yesterday on fjords in my FV201, went throght the southern point into town with one other, met three enemy meds and an amx13-73, we were duelling it out between the houses, pecking hit-points of each other and it was a fairly even contest; I imagine they were enjoying it as much as me, next mistake or crit could swing the fight either way KABOOOMMMMMMMMM 1173 HP damage from an arty as I darted between buildings...

There was a mutually enjoyable gaming contest occurring then trollolol BLAM!

But the arty enjoyed it too?

You enjoyed the first half the game, he enjoyed the second?

That being said, when I play arty I do try to prioritize British tanks, they seem softer and much more liable to suffer heavy damage than Russian tanks; took me 4 hits in the GW Tiger (P) to kill an IS-7 last night.

French tanks are nice and squishy too. I'm always getting targeted with my AMX 50 120.

I've played over 1k games with arty and only recently found out you can hold down Ctrl and right click the mini-map to change the area of focus. It doesn't make a huge amount of difference, but it does save some scrolling and mouse movement. Allows me more time to concentrate on that all important left click. tongue out

I've also been having a play around with arty on the test server. I wasn't impressed with the high tier Germans ones. They seemed very inaccurate to me.

I could buy the tier 6 French SPG or the tier 5 US one on the live sever, so I had a go with them too. I've favouring the US line at the moment I think on balance.

Patch 9.10 should be out in a day or two BTW.

Oh and the Object 268 is the top of the tree starting Tuesday.

Get yourself the arty Battle Assistant (http://worldof-tanks.com/battle-assistant-best-modification/).

It means you have a horizontal rather than vertical view. Everyone I know who uses it raves about it.

Gah, can't win for the losing tonight. I'm playing premiums exclusively at the moment, so I'm not even in the strongest tanks on the field, yet in every game I'm coming in 1000+ damage ahead of my next nearest team mate. It's the same win or lose, mostly lose tonight it must be said. I'm playing without my regular platoon buddy, it's awful knowing there isn't even one friendly tank you can rely on!

I should recruit some extra players so I have a bigger pool to team up with, some guns run 5 man platoons every night - that would even the odds with the idiots I think. Playing solo often feels like I've against 29 reds.

Platoons are max of 3, but what you can do as a clan is have two platoons and try and enter the game at the same time (3-2-1-click!)

No guarantees (and often you're on opposing sides) but it's still good fun!

Joining a clan and playing with my fellow 'clanners' made WOT so much more enjoyable for me. Not sure I'd still be playing it if I wasn't in a clan.

5 man max on Xbox, rarely seen in the wild, most often a load of scrubs fail platooning a tier 8 and a load of 5s and 6s, but occasionally 5 very strong players working in coordination. I regularly platoon with two other strong players and it can feel like easy mode at times, 5 strong players with good tank choices must be very, very effective. There was a lot of furore on the Xbox WOT forum about 5 platoons, that they'd break the game etc, but in truth most of the time you see them they're not coordinated, their player and tank synchonicity is low and they're easy meat like the other idiots.

I stand corrected! Was worried my post might come across as 'Mr Knowitall' which wasn't how I intended it.

5 man platoons! I'm not sure if I like that idea or not.

First game with the LeFururur (tier 5 French premium arty) tonight and Ace Tanker in a tier 7 game - just over 2k Damage and another 1K dues to tracking.

That was good enough for the SPG-13 mission (for the Stug). I thought I'd have to do that with the GW panther.

Thanks, I'm aware of it. I'll give it a go some time.

Good job with the French premium. I can see why they're hated so much!

I got my tier 9 French arty yesterday and had a reasonable first game with it (one shot a Comet and took 1100 off a T28 Prototype). The revolving turret makes a big difference when aiming around the map.

Cheers. The Lefurhur is slow, but actually has some frontal armour (it's based on the B1 heavy tank) that low tier scouts have problems with. I've shot gunned a few that thought they'd have an easy time of it. It also has a reasonably wide gun arc and will reach almost from corner to corner of the map.

I like that many of the French TDs are fast. After all, they were supposed to keep up with an armoured thrust. Having a turret is a great advantage too. One of the pluses of the GW Panther, although it doesn't fully rotate.

I actually found one of the batchat arties with my T71 in another game last night. He missed his shot gun attempt, so I stopped evasive manoeuvres and began to clip him. As I was doing this I started thinking... wait, is that the tier 9 batchat or the 10? Then he nailed me. It was the tier 10, which has a 6 second reload from its clip. Merde. laugh

Yes it is. They both have 50% off from the tier 2 to 5. 30% off from the tier 6 to the tier 10.

Plus x1.5 Crew XP bonus for all battles.

On EU at least, they're repeating that "win a WZ-111 Chinese tier 8 premium heavy tank" special.

This time you need to do 135,000 damage & kill 135 tanks throughout September for each of the 7 nations.

You can skip one or all of the nations by buying tokens from the premium shop for £7.25 each.

I got one of these tanks last year and it's quite good really. Fairly bouncy too.

It's easier this time too. Last time you had to do 150,000 damage and 150 kills per nation. The kills were harder to get than the damage was in my experience. Especially as people were holding their shots and kill stealing like mad.

For anyone who also has this tank already, you could do it again, but you'll just get 4,900,000 credits instead.
