I couldn't get on with it and gave up after a few episodes.
What really did it for me was them (on more than one occasion) saying "we need to sneak in, do this on the down low" (or similar), and then cut to them blasting along the highway on their Hogs in a pack, exhausts blaring, (metaphorically) shouting "we're a biker gang".
Lol. That's true. It's a bit A-Team in places. I don't what it is because it's naff at times but for some reason I enjoyed it. I did however skip season 2+3 and ended up rewatching them. I'm watching Community at the moment too but unless you're a 20-something who enjoys US Comedy and sitcoms I wouldn't recommend. I'm thoroughly enjoying it but at points I do feel maybe even I'm a little old for it.
Not heard of it but gave the first few a shot and quite like it so many thanks(I'm a long way from 20 something!) smn159 said:
Is Sons of Anarchy worth persevering with then? I watched the pilot last night and couldn't see much appeal. They made a pretty unconvincing looking biker gang IMO and the whole thing had the feel of a highly stylised soap opera rather than a serious drama.
Same with Justified and Dexter really. I couldn't get past the glossy soap opera vibe.
I'd say Sons of Anarchy is worth persevering with - First few episodes are a bit slow, but gets better - Same with Justified and Dexter really. I couldn't get past the glossy soap opera vibe.
Season 3 is a little off, and has some really dodgy Irish accents!
The only problem I foresee is that with BB, every series was building to something. The 'empire' was always getting larger, they were always finding themselves involved in bigger and bigger problems and situations. The pace seemed to get more frantic with each episode and you could see all the side plots slowly converging into what was going to be an almighty crescendo at the very end.
I'm not sure how they'll manage that with BCS because Jimmy is just one guy trying to build a business and we already know where that business is in several years time because he featured so much in BB. And without that build up I'm not sure BCS will ever gain the popularity that BB has.

We never did find out how Saul knew Gus, and Gus is big business, either on the legal or the not-really-legal side. The shoddy strip-mall office was almost a front for the real business Saul had going on by the time of Breaking Bad, given the amount of cash he was raking in. Hopefully that relationship will be explored.I'm not sure how they'll manage that with BCS because Jimmy is just one guy trying to build a business and we already know where that business is in several years time because he featured so much in BB. He didn't did he? I thought he knew Mike who worked for him as a PI.And Mike worked for Gus by BB as security.
Excellent episode I thought, if anything ended too soon as you want to know what is going on with Mike.
Found the earlier cash scene funnier than the loo one.
Also tied in Saul and Mike nicely- in BB Mikes motivation was to make cash to leave for his grand daughter, so assuming Saul's Will writing services will be take up at some point.
