So, I have had a couple of Freelanders, now got 2011 Freelander 2. However, always wanted a Range Rover Sport and so the time is nigh... I have a budget of £19k but could do £20k if my wife isn't looking and want something in the 2007-2009 bracket, preferably HSE, preferably v8, preferably <60k on the clock. I have a test drive booked on one this week, but it's a v6.

I would be very grateful for advice on what to look out for, potential pit-falls etc. I have been told I shouldn't be so hung up on mileage but I'm not sure and aside from the V6 being (slightly) more fuel efficient is there much difference in one over the other?

Thanks

My TDV8 8.5MY HSE is currently showing 27mpg on its OBC - although I dont commute it

In the 2 lots of heavy snow we've had since Ive owned it the car has been sensational but dips well below 20mpg around town

At the time of buying the V6 was awful but this changed for the 10MY as well as a vastly improved cabin
The sweet spot of the range is probably a facelifted 2010/11 TDV8 with the new interior before they dropped the "proper" engine smile

My car has been sweet, utterly no problems at all
It was a glorious place to spend 800 miles as a family last Saturday from the south of France and in foul weather there is nothing else Id like to drive
Over and above this it tows without breaking into a sweat and carries the dog with our holiday bags too

Much as Id like an E class or CLS wagon I cannot justify the man maths even with Merc's current 20% discounts
I paid 42k new in the trough of the recession for it 5 1/2 years ago and figure its now worth 21k tops
A tame indy helps massively, my experience of the local main dealers is of poor service and high costs

Its due a 2k splurge for its air suspension in the next 2-3 years but I cannot justify flogging it as the depreciation on a (discounted) Merc or an SMAX (other dream car) would be orders of magnitude above this even allowing for the extra 500 notes Id spend on fuel and 200 on VED each year

I never thought Id drive the stereotypical car of an orange footballers wife, but honestly its been the best motor Ive ever had

Cheers!!!!

This would be my pic, though not sure it would be in budget. The later interior is a step up.

I love my TDV8 (averaging 26mpg), goes well and sounds pretty good for an oil burner.
