Just after some real world experience over whether this has actually been fixed. Looking at a current shape Legacy or Outback which I believe from my research all have the Euro5 engine which the dealer and all the sources I can find does not blow up- hoping that's right!

Interested in any other problems people have had on these new shape Legacy/Outbacks too

Thanks, Nick

Currently running 2 boxer diesels in an XV and Forester XC, both are excellent, local butcher runs a 2010 Outback diesel with 80k plus miles on without issue. As far as I'm aware the later engines are free from crank and cam issues. Legacy ground clearance stopped me buying one but a great car non the less. Outback Navplus would be my choice. Go for it !

We have had a couple of issues with glow plugs shorting off the block??? not the cheapest fix, but not too bad if the plugs come out... it isn't unheard of for them not to though. other than that I personally haven't had any probs with any post 2010 diesels, I think that is maybe more because of all the hassle we had with the pre 2010 ones, we didnt buy any.
I have heard through Subaru trade folk, they are still problematic, if the earlier ones are anything to go by, I wouldn't be surprised. I now DONT buy diesel ones, but love and buy as many petrol ones as I can.

I have had two two diesels (one Legacy and one XV) and my brother has also had two (Legacy and an Outback) and no camshaft problems with any of the four cars.
