Had so many texts/emails/calls from agencies lately looking for staff, never known it to be like this before.
I have been polite in declining their offers of jumping ship for increased hourly rates but it has been good having them grovel.I have a 'permanent' job now anyway but did not want to burn any bridges as I am never one to get complacent.
I had a call this week at about 7.00pm asking if I was avalable for work.

The M&E trades jobs market is picking up quite quickly now. I'm contract and the calls, emails & texts have also picked up but unfortunately not much for my interest in the water industry in my area (north east). That'll be the beginning of next year I'm expecting. Happy days smile

I'm an electrical contractor, we struggled to get decent staff this year to keep up with all the work. I managed to employ two very, very good sparks and we got some fairly decent agency sparks (eventually). But we had to turn down and delay lots of work until September as it was just impossible to get decent staff to do the extra work!

I was always told there were no silly questions just silly answers...... Although an elephant commissioning engineer has a certain ring to it I think wink

Well if the work continues to pick up in our sector, then finding good quality labour will get harder. This been the results of the blinkered industry that don't seem to want to train apprentices.

As for agencies, I have always managed to avoid them and sub direct, however this seems to be getting harder as more companies only recruit through agencies.

Not a silly question at all. I find myself wondering why the OP assumed that we would understand the acronym? Perhaps because he is a PWAEKWHM?

Perhaps it was aimed at the people who knew what it meant as it would only have been of interest to them.

I was in the M&E business working for a ventilation sub contractor till the place went bust. That was 3 years ago. Something worth getting back in to?

If you're in the south then I'd say so.

There is a massive shortage of skills down here.

As an MEP consultant not far from London we have been struggling to recruit decent engineers
