Had my Tam for about 6 months, and it's on Nitrons.
I love the slow speed handling and traction out of corners is better than expected (I love the feel of the std Hydratrac )
My problem is that it's very 'darty' and nervous at high speeds and crashy over small bumps or potholes.
Back in my rallying days 'Billy's' were the thing to have .....
Has anyone gone back to Bilsteins from Nitrons?
Any advice is greatly received.

I'm also about to change the discs and pads, not sure wether to go for the bargain deal at RG for the full set, or.....???

Cheers,

John.

Have you had the suspension alignment checked? what tyre pressures are you running? Both have a big influence on what you describe.

Had my Nitrons for 6 weeks 40's set at 12 & 10 (rear-Fr) and happy with that setting dropped tyre pressure from 28 & 26 to 26 & 24 and found that smoothed it out a little..wont be going back to Bil's...
PS above is for my Tuscan

Hi John,

There's been a few threads on the nitron's crashy ride.

I've gone from Nitrons to standard Bilstiens. It's complicated because the Nitron Springs are at the front 205% of the original eibach rate and 155% at the rear. I feel that's actually a lot of where that harsh ride is coming from. The stiff rates do make the diff work better though.

I think the Billies are under-damped for the standard springs let alone the nitron spring rates (they won't fit anyway).

So I think the Nitrons are way too stiff, and the bilstien/eibach standard setup is too soft. I'm going to try to find something in the middle next.

I would give Hexham Horseless Carriages a call.

They have provided me in the past with billies valved for a Sag with Sag rated springs to fit a very late Tuscan.

An excellenty upgrade and pricewise probably sits between standard billies and nitrons.

Still think you should get your existing setup properly checked rather than spend money on new components.

I run Eibach springs (recommended by Str8Six) with my Nitrons so I can't comment on Nitron springs.
