Gents,

I currently own a 1999 W202 C230 K (Mercedes C Class) with just over 165k (yes, she's a peach wink ) anyway, I am concerned that the car has never had a transmission fluid change and whilst the car starts and drives fine, the shifts are a little rough...

So my question is, should I go ahead and change the transmission fluid?

The concern that I have is that if I change the fluid now, could this free up a load of gunk etc. from the previous years and cause even bigger problems than I have now? Or should I just change the fluid and see how it goes?

I know the saying, if it's not broken don't fix it, but with fluid changes that doesn't really apply.

Thanks all

Chris

Change it wink trans sump gasket new filter and fresh oil run it for a while then change just the oil again as you will only get 2 thirds of the old oil out due to the torque converter oil cooler etc stick retaining the old stuff scratchchin its a bit of compromise and you will waste some oil (contaminated with old) but thats as good as it gets, anyone that says you will do more harm than good servicing the box irked is talking bks and knows nothing of automatic transmissions your the shifts will improve and you will have piece of mind you have just prolonged your auto box service life.
