Staying near Bank tomorrow night it seems that most pubs in the city don't open at the weekend.

We'll be going to dinner on Berkeley Street and would ideally like to be heading to a cosy pub for a couple of beers. Somewhere where we might get a seat and can hear each other...

Any suggestion?

Do you mean Berkeley Street in Mayfair for Dinner?

Do you want to drink near the hotel or near the restaurant?

There's quite a long way between the two.

Yes heading to Nobu for dinner. Would prefer to drink nearer the hotel to shorten the stagger distance...

Can't think of many "cosy" pubs in staggering distance - The Swan is ok but shut.
All the others are bit big to be cosy.

How about the bar at the Royal Exchange? You can book at table there. Definitely not a pub though.

ETA - I would agree with the above about staying in Mayfair, but everywhere good will be rammed on a Saturday.

Corney and barrow between bank and liv st

There's the 8 club in change alley, not sure if it's members only on a weekend. I've been, but with a member

There is a slug and lettuce (I know!) on Lombard st

Pretty sure there a nice bar inside the corn exchange?

This is not going to plan.... Might end up in the hotel bar... Luckily we got a deal.

I hate crowds, not so good on a Saturday night

To report back...

Nobu was nice, but as a concept fiercely expensive.

We then ditched all of our plans and meandered through west end stopping at random pubs for a round when we felt like it...

Had a really good night before jumping on the bus at Charing Cross.

Apart from the bus bit - sounds like a good night!

Bus was absolutely fine and damn site easier to find than a taxi.

Yep - it's a pretty good trip back to Bank.

Can I ask which Hotel and if it was any good?

Threadneedles. Very nice room, good quality fittings, not 'swanlky and new though', good service, pricey, but a 5* London hotel that is to be expected. Booked as a Last Minute.com Secret hotel so actual room was well priced.

The City was very quiet, and I'd have been disappointed if I had not already worked out that it was likely to be so.

Thanks.

If you do it again you are probably best walking down the the Thames then either over to Borough Market Area or down The South Bank into Westmisnter - plenty going on there at all levels.

That part of the city is dead at weekends, but you can get some decent hotel deals as a result.
