Or something that's not too intrusive , ive been looking for something new or secondhand to plug into my Grandfathers Stereo.

He used to use the Bose cubes , however they're long gone.

Any ideas on what i can use ?

Bose still do small cubes, look at the Acoutimass 3 this is the first in the range. You obviously need a sub when the speakers are this small. Alternatively have a look at Monitor Audio's Radius range, same principle but better looking and better sounding.

Bowers and Wilkins M-1 are cube like or you could go for Kef eggs.

If it's cubes you want, the acoustimass is the way to go.

Not quite a cube - but the Q Acoustics 1010i are pretty compact at - W x H x D (mm) 150 x 215 x 195 and seem to get fairly good reviews.

You don't state what equipment you'll be using - which would help!

Are they good in a proper speaker kind of way, or good for their size?

I was looking at them in Richer sounds, but they didn't have them set up in their demo room. I wanted to see if I could tell the difference between them and an average hi-fi speaker.

At the moment I've got some Kef floor standers for front speakers, and some cheap bookshelf speakers for the rear. I have a decent polk audio sub, and an eltax center which can be reused, so I could get 4 of the Minx cubes for about £200 and do away with the big speakers.

They are certainly ok to my ear, two year guarantee as well, the richer sounds I bought them set them up just for me to try, you can get three different sized subs, I used the smallest and for music and surround sound for the tv have been very pleased, good for their size definitely, good full stop certainly better than the equivalent Bose.

Thank you kindly for your replies.

I have looked into the ones mentioned , and my Grandfather did use the Acoustimass set up.

But i am interested in the Bower and Wilkin's , plus the Kef eggs.

I shall have a look out for some secondhand kit.

not so much cubes but more like "spheres" but take a look at the orb audio setups. I purchased a set of doubles about a year ago to replace my BOSE acoustimass and the difference is literally night and day. Couldn't be happier!

Good for their size perhaps. Like with cars, there's no replacement for displacement.
