First off, I broke the law and got caught - so no complaints
Last night returning from London going northbound i was behind a Mercedes in the outside lane , as we both passed cars in the middle lane he pulled over and i accelerated past. This happened, as best i can remember, going under a bridge just before Junction 12.
Im certain my speed at that point was high 80s - fair enough. Im curious though as to why it went off when I passed but not for other traffic ? I know there were cars ahead of me that had overtaken at a much higher speed.
So whats the likely outcome? Last time I got done for speeding was 1985 - 3 points and £50.

I thought those cameras weren't active unless there was a speed restriction. I wouldn't worry about it though - at worst it's likely to be a FPN - just think of it as a supplement to your road tax.

There were no speed limits signs on, I think that is why I was surprised. No excuse but after the driving i'd seen up to that point I was watching the Mercedes rather than looking for cameras.

O/T
I saw countless cars just sitting in the middle lane with no other cars anywhere near them ( empty lanes ahead and behind) and saw one car, again with no traffic in front of him/her move from the inside lane to the middle??

Bit weird but the same thing happened to me the Saturday before somewhere near the same spot

It was 10pm or so and I was overtaking a numpty who decided to increase his speed as I went past
In anticipation that he would pull into my lane as his new trajectory was going to take him up the chuff of an Eddie Stobart I gave it a tad more gas to expediate my move and crept into slightly naughty territory accompanied by what felt like a flash of lightening but which was probably a camera lets face it

7 days and counting now........
Mercifully my previous points came off 2 weeks earlier

I was under the impression they were active but would only be set off by quite a high speed, >85mph was the figure I had in my mind for some reason.

I was pretty sure I got flashed in around that area of the M1. That was the end of May, so I'm thinking it's ok. I was sure it was my lane, but someone was going faster than me, and I know I wasn't speeding. At the time the car had a wheel bearing that was on the way out, and it was impossible to do more than 70 without your ears bleeding.

Still a bit nervous for a couple of weeks, but nothing heard.

Try not to worry about it.

Been flashed around there before and nothing came of it. On the M1 if you have good eyesight you can actually make out the defining features if there is a camera in the overhead bridge.

I know exactly where you mean. There is a camera on both carriageways.

I dont believe you'll get anything through.

Thanks, fingers crossed and I'll try not to think about it.
I only went to London with my son to get away for a bit as I've not been having too good a time - wife walked out while I was at work leaving our 2 sons with me , thankfully.
That probably another thread though, thanks for the reassurance ( hopefully).

Unless you're getting into silly speeds I find the cameras around that area give one warning flash. It's only if you get two flashes that you've actually been pictured speeding.

Last October time I got flashed on the M25 around the Milton Keynes area at around 100-110, luckily nothing ever came through. Fingers crossed for you.

Must have been one hell of a bright flash - Milton Keynes is 35 miles away from the M25!
