I'm currently watching breaking bad (just about to start season 4) I bought the complete DVD box set 1st to final episode and it been nice watching a few episodes back to back and using the surround sound as well.

What I want to know is, what other box sets 1st to final episode is out there that's worth buying on DVD?

I've also watched The Sopranos start to finish so no need to mention it smile

The Shield. I recently rewatched the last season and to be honest it's a lot better than I remembered it and I thought it was great at the time.

Battlestar Galactica. For me there's not been much on before or since that was as good. If you get the box-set, make sure you get the pilot episode (3 hour epic) as it sets the scene properly. If you jump right in to Ep1 Season1, you'll be immediately confused a bit.

I still have a sour taste because of the last season. Going all religious, couldn't really stand it tbh. Loved the show for the rest. Olmos was the boss!

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse and Firefly are both great shouts as box sets, the latter being axed just as it was getting great.

To the end of season three it's ok, sometimes good.

Series 4, 5, and 5 (2) are simply superb.

Don't give up before it turns into the best tele you've ever seen.

I recently bought the box set of every episode of 'The A Team' - 96 hours worth, ahahaha!

But not probably exactly what you were getting at, I admit.

Still, 20-odd episodes in, I have to say that it's stood the test of time very well. In the days before CGI, I am really appreciating the time and money they must have spent on genuine special effects - actually wrecking and blowing stuff up for real!

WRT modern stuff, and to maybe help answer your question - I thoroughly recommend getting all the 'Strike Back' seasons on DVD. An amazingly fun, boys-own adventure series. It's got guns, explosions, excitement, fun, tits, sex, and silliness in equal measure.

The final season will be airing on Sky 1 around the end of the year / beginning of next year, and then that's that.

It's a fabulous series though - I would defy any bloke to not love it! biggrin

I've never had time for TV Drama series, but made an effort in the last couple of years to watch some and here is my opinion:

The Sopranos - fking amazing. My brother lent me the DVD set after insisting I watch it. It's probably one of the best things I have ever watched. Many threads running throughout it and some incredible performances.

Homeland - Utterly gripping and I couldn't stop watching it. So much packed into each episode that it was like watching an hour long thriller/action movie each time. Really good. Proper double crossing CIA terrorist type stuff.

Breaking Bad - Enjoyed it. To be honest though, it's incredibly dark all the way though. You keep expecting at least a few good things to happen to the characters but it never comes.. it's just keeps getting worse and worse for everyone involved as they get deeper and it's actually quite depressing! Glad I watched it though.

The Wire - Watched all of season 1 and part of season 2. Kind of kept expecting something exciting to kick off but it really never came. A lot of people like it, but it's a really slow burner where you have to pay careful attention and concentrate. It just didn't have enough going on to hold me.

The Shield - Never watched it. Just downloaded the entire first series to my iPad via Filemaster and will watch it on the plane to New York and back in a few days smile
