So car been parked up for a week pre MOT. Fired up no probs drove to test centre absolutely hammering down with rain.
Parked up, locked car , tester ( my mate ) said pull Over the pit. Unlocked car and drove into garage, noticed hazards were flashing but went off, odd I thought pulled over pit turned ignition off , got out of the car, shut the door and..... Car had locked both doors! Buttons on mirrors not firing solenoids, key fobs doing sod all. Leant inside And popped doors manually, hazards going off. This repeated for 5 mins. Imobilser fob still working and car fired up on demand and hazards stopped flashing on entry.

Passed MOT but now doesn't respond to blipper or the spare.

Can drive it but can't lock it.. Light on dash next to radio continually flashes.. Can't Remember if that happens anyway

wtf?

Has the battery been flat at any point?

Anyway it sounds like the alarm needs a reset. Remove the +ive terminal lead from battery for 20 seconds or so and then as you reconnect press the fob. That should rest the immobiliser/alarm.

(PS The red light usually goes out once the alarm is disarmed)

To answer your question re the dash light, that only flashes when the immobiliser is armed. If I unlock mine and get in, do nothing for 60 secs, that starts flashing.

Yes, its odd isn't it? I have occasionally been sitting in the car and have somehow managed not to disengage the alarm completely, yet have disengaged the immobiliser. I think I have done it by turning the ignition fully on, which disarms the immobiliser and primes the fuel pump, and have pressed the lock button on the key as i have done it. So I have managed to start the car locked, but the red flashing light warns me that I will very soon be driving with the hazards flashing and the alarm going off....

So I revise my statement - the red light must mean the alarm is set, not that the immobiliser is on
