Charlie Sheen was nominated but instead of ice cold water, he chucked $10,000 over himself which he then donated to the charity. Still quite amusing seeing celebs making a fool of themselves.
I loved the Bill Gates / Justin Timberlake & Charlie Sheen ones.
Charlie then challenged :

Chuck Lorre
Jon Cryer
Ashton Kutcher

That should be interesting to see if they do (not found the videos yet)

Is this a Facebook thing?
Started more as a twitter thing I think and has spread to Facebook. Started in the US about a particular charity but it seems loads of people have now jumped on the bandwagon and started doing it in the name of other charities.

The principal fad seems to be the whole nomination thing...like these no make up selfies. I will forgive it (how magnanimous am I?!) as it seems they do raise a bit for charity.

However, I think the whole nomination side of it is all a bit self indulgent 'look at me, look what I am doing' then pressuring someone else to follow suit.

That's wrong mate, if you do the challenge (I did it last night) you text ICE to the number to donate £3 to Macmillan Cancer and nominate 3 friends, if you don't do it you text FINE to the number to donate £10.

It's just a bit of fun, and it's raising money for a good cause - where's the harm in that?
So effectively you save £7? I can't see that's an improvement biggrin MacMillan have jumped on the bandwagon (and who's to blame them?) with a rubbish version of what should happen: X bets Y to do the challenge, with the loser donating to charidee. The charity wins both ways and some fading celebs get some attention.

I saw the Apple CEO doing his, thought they could have done with a much bigger bucket tbh

The best one I've seen so far, (other than the Fails where buckets end up pretty much breaking people's necks) was some alleged famous guy who for reasons unknown needed an array of hot chicks stood around the jacuzzi and a goat was brought in to watch confused

You'll struggle to freeze a whole bucket of water at this time of year. Can you wait until the winter?

This is an awesome thing If only it gets people to talk about it. ALS is a collective name for whats called Motor Neurone Disease here in the UK.

It was started by a guy with ALS who was trying to raise money for this disease which basically shuts down the body by killing off the nerves that transmit Motor signals. legs ares speech e.t.c effectively trapping you in a shell. But then you cant swallow and eventually the neurons that tell you to instinctively breathe stop transmitting properly....Horrific way to die.......And there is no cure.

So seeing such amazing exposure and so many people getting behind this in the USA I was really glad to see it starting to happen in the UK. Few high profile people in the UK started doing it Richard Branson and the like.

Then I posted up today I would be getting this done and making a donation too on my facebook only to get a Barrage of posts saying I was doing it for the wrong charity.

Basically Macmillan have Hijacked the ALS Icebucket challenge in the UK. #tag thing is now used by them and lots of "text ICE to this number" has been set up and their CEO has nominated lots of other high profile to do this. So far they have in my opinion stolen over £250,000 from the MND. Before people get all shirty with me for this comment. This charity is tiny in comparison. Macmillan raised 14X more than MND last year. At one event alone they raised more than the entire years fund raising for the MND charity.

This was a perfect opportunity for MND and other Neuro degenerative diseases to get some exposure and much needed funding.

I have no vent for this and I am at Beyond Daily Mail levels of anger at the moment frown

So please if you are going to do this make sure you are doing it for the right charity which is MND.

Where's the "challenge" in it though? It's just water, and not much of it at that.

The challenge is someone challenges you..... Keep up at the back.

Great idea if it raises money or awareness for a disease that gets hardly any attention unfortunately yet is so horrible. It's a shame Macmillan have done what they have.

Eh?
That's not a challenge. That's just peer group pressure.

Is it true that one of the guys that started this has (quite ironically) drowned? Or just internet myth?
