What's Nandos like in LDN, expensive or same price as rest of UK?

I could eat there everynight if I had to.
Really? I went to a Nando's for the first time a couple weeks back. Cost a lot for what's bordering on self-service, with incredibly small portions. Don't think I'll go back.
I went for the first time (I'm in my 40's) the other day. Wow it was unimpressive. takeaway chicken at restaurant prices.

I just don't get it.

obviously this has nothing to do with the London thread though !

It is shocking, but people do live to or beyond their means, more often the latter.

So someone on £100k living in London will tell you it costs a fortune to live there as they never have anything left blah blah...

But plonk them in Leicester and they'll still be skint... they will have just spent the money they saved on property costs elsewhere..

You CAN live in London on £25k... it won't be much of a life, and if I were in that situation, I'd stay oop north.

But as already mentioned, people live through it in order to progress their careers, knowing they will likely earn significantly more in the future and the investment will pay off.

I'm earning under £50k at the moment whilst I'm studying and I'm managing to get by with a nice lifestyle.. the Mrs' income goes in her bank and she doesn't live with me so I pay all bills from that.

I admit there's not much left after, but then I'm here to study and am happy spending what I earn for the next 5 years. I could quite easily save a few hundred quid if I sold the SL and drove something sensible, and didn't eat out quite so often.

Err does your 911 Turbo not impact ones monthly budget slightly more than a few meals out?

Hehehe

rofl

Only on Pistonheads would a student claim they're "managing to get by" with a Porsche Turbo and £50k a year...
To be fair he probably takes his BMW to uni to save abit of money.

Indeed. Even Tonker has avoided this thread. :-)

To be fair to 911Student he made this very good point. Many new arrivals in London make do on 25-30k to start with in London. They are technically living for all intents and purposes, so that is the answer ..

Yes, that does surprise me, usually he is straight into his folder and copies and pastes the stock reply to these sorts of threads.

He's posted about it in detail before. I think it was to be a dentist?

I'm not sure what the big deal is about him having a 911 and being a student. I guess the 83 is from his age so he's 31.... i.e. must have been working for years then went back to study.

Nothing wrong with having a good car already paid for outright and then deciding to have a change of career and holding onto the car is there? Obviously thats just speculation as to what he's done though, I don't know smile

Spot on, worked in finance since 19 and am 31 now.

911 paid for pre recession 50/50 with my father, it stays in Leicester so I rarely drive it now so he pays for the running costs for now.

The SL is a recent purchase, again paid for from savings.

Earnings are from having set up my own business a few years ago and still seeing clients outside of my studies.

I start dental school in sept having studied here in London at a college for the last year to meet the entry requirements.

So far from the picture painted I above by some of you!

And as for the comment about my wanting an impressive house saying it all - what is wrong with that? If I'm going to spend £1.5 million+ on a house I damn well expect it to be impressive!

No, but it's quite arrogant to be in that position and claim you're "managing to get by".
I hardly claimed to be managing to get by. I pointed out that I hardly live like a pauper on Under 50k in response to people claiming you need to earn £100k+ to live a nice lifestyle in london. In fact I pointed out that if I didn't drive the car undid, I would easily be able to save quite a bit per month, therefore supporting my original point that you can live in london for well under £50k and still have a life.

I make no apologies for having worked my arse off in building my business and working evenings whilst studying to be able to afford nice things, if you feel I'm arrogant for offering my experience then that's clearly your problem, not mine!

Something I am impressed with, not anybody else.

I have the cars I do because when I drove them, they impressed me.

Likewise I want my home to impress me, I don't understand what the issue is?

Just the 'look how much money I have' and 'life must be st if you earn 25k and live in London' nonsense.

Comes across as vapid and vulgar tbh.

Have you actually read my posts? Ie been arguing that you CAN easily live in London for £25k when others have been making comments like you claim I hae.

And sorry, look at how much money I have? When did I say that? Anyone can look at someone's garage on here and see what they drive, and saying I earn UNDER £50k is bragging now? Really?
