Clutch switch query

Hi Guys and girls,
Hopefully a quick query, Ive tried looking up the answer, but it brings up lots of information regarding bypassing the switch (this is not what i am doing or trying to do).
I bought some new shorty levers, however, these were just some cheap replacements for a damaged lever, short term until i can afford a decent set.
The bike; A GSXR 600. K8. The model/manufacturer of the levers is some cheapo chinese factory I believe.
Although, bought for the right age/era/model of bike, the lever on the clutch doesnt seem to have a block which shuts off or closes the clutch switch. Therefore the clutch switch is permanently out. The bike has, since changing the lever, started giving me an FI indicator warning. Still allows riding and doesnt seem to adversely affect anything else.
However, my query, will this by any means damage the bike? I was under the impression that the switch was just to aid starting of the bike and having to depress the clutch?? Is the FI warning linked to this do you believe, which makes me think it does something else?
Are there any alternatives until I get a new lever?

I don't know about the GSXR 600 but I know on the TL1000R bypassing the clutch switch loses power because the ECU thinks that the clutch is in and it retards the ignition. My TL1000R had crappy levers on it when I bought it that didn't have the part to activate the clutch switch so the previous owner had bypassed the switch by bridging the wires with a piece of wire.
This is where my concern is, as Ive had seen a few things mentioning the ECU changing power/revs due to the switch.
I do have to depress the clutch lever to start the bike. But as far as my bike thinks, it already believes the clutch lever is pulled. As the switch is out. In normal riding, the switch would be in, as the lever would naturally push it in.

Seems to depend on the bike. My GSX14 hates the clutch switch being bypassed, it coughs, splutters & drinks like a fish. Other identical bikes don't have a problem.
Epoxy a bit of plastic or something on to push the switch, it's easy to do & you know it's right then if you're worried about it.

Ive not got my bike with me today, so will check later, but believe if the switch is 'locked/fixed' in, then it wont actually be able to start!
May be wrong, just my take on it.

Nope, sorry, its probably how ive written it.Pulling the lever, allows the switch to pop out. So when you are travelling along and the clutch lever isnt being used, the switch is in.
Make sense?!
So, if i taped off the switch, I dont beleive I could start the bike.

Could be wrong, but just trying to recall something I read in the CBR manual many moons ago about what it means if that light comes on.
The FI indicator could be for any fault code that the ECU sees on the bike. These are read by putting the bike into dealer mode by bridging the 2 wires on the plug at the rear of the bike. I believe that the FI indicator is 'very' generic and means there is a problem. The code it relates too is the actual issue, but need a fault reader for this. I think your right about starting it. You could take the switch off & hold it to start, then test ride it with the switch not depressed to see if it makes any difference.

This is the thing, the levers dont touch the switch at the moment at all. So the switch is permanently out. So the bike believes the clutch lever has been pulled. Therefore it allows it too start, and run fine.Anyway to file the lever down to let the switch pop out or similar?

This doesn't make sense. If the clutch switch is always actuated because of the after-market lever, why do you still need to pull the clutch in to start it?Mr2Mike said:

This is the thing, I dont think I do, but havent got the bike here to try.I pull the lever out of instinct, so havent thought about it until today, when I was bored at work.
