I was always against French cars thought they were unreliable crap. We both do big miles for work. Due to needing a car quick and being given an offer I could not turn down I took a risk.
Bought a 2.0l 407 with 10 k on it sold it at 110k the mrs liked it so she bought an estate we put about 100k on that too.
Current citroen has 145k on it only problem we had was the bladders leaked for the air suspension in that really cold winter. Cheap easy fix.
So over 300k miles one minor issue. We have spent nothing on them other than servicing. Oh not true a wheel sensor on her 407 was about 20 quid and one screw to fit.
Ford was junk. Honda was a nail. The French cars kept on trucking and have been the most reliable cars I have owned by a long long way.
Not just me either my work colleagues who also do 25k miles a year have had the same experiences. One had the last shape c5 at over 200k

Also my parents ran a 730 had quite a few expensive problems. Exhaust manifold cracked and they couldn't get the bolts iut charged a fortune apparently is was common in that model. They also needed the auto gear box rebuilding.
As I said above if you compare my colleagues who all do big miles my colleague from Liverpool had all sorts of issues with his 330d when it got yo 100k. M3's with that various timing problem?
I think you need to take a but of a broader view it's not german good everything else bad any more.

He commented that the Air Bump on the side of the vehicle really does work. They had a Cactus at the Academy recently which took a whack from an adjacent car door. The Air Bumps stopped any lasting damage being left on the car.

Just concerns me the way most ignorant parkers are they will see these doors and quite happily bounce their door off them as you have protection. Does the plastic/rubber mark at all? Is it easily replaceable? I'm assuming not cheap.
Just a point to note on the fuel economy side of it. 115bhp 1.6 diesel.
My wife (and the odd long journey by me) has racked up nearly 7k on the car now and the trip is holding a steady 51mpg.
These doesn't sound great but it is nearly all town work. We have family around 250miles away from us and so do the odd drive 'up north'.
Really trying on the journey I did actually get 74mpg (on trip and not far off at the pump) On the way back It averaged 63mpg but I wasn't really trying in the slightest.
So normal driving when in 'wifes in the car mode' 60+ mpg is easily possible in the bigger, better equipped Picasso.
So for the normal cross town commute with the odd leg stretch etc 50+ should be easy with this. Again 70+ as well if you can be bothered trying.
The engine is quite 'peppy' but does suffer with some lag. 200lbft comes on instantly when the turbo wakes up and can make it feel quite nippy until you put your foot down and realise all it has to give has been and gone.
Just thought I would put the engine 'performance' in some context.

There were two transporters packed with Cacti (Cactuses?) going round a sodden M25 this evening, complete with one in a fetching green paint job. My son thought they were brilliant but the OH pulled a face (having already yukked at the example parked outside the dealership in Condom last week).
I like them, or the idea at least (haven't sat in one yet). We need an alternative to the current, somewhat clinical, German design language that seems to be spreading globally...
