Dear All

I am looking to sell my Ford Kuga Titanium and use some of the money to buy a 4x4,

I cannot however decide between the following:

Landrover Freelander 2

Landrover Discovery 3

Volvo XC90

VW Touareg

I am looking to spend £7-8k,

My main fear is that the freelanders boot is too small, how does this compare to the Kuga?

I do not believe the quoted 755l of space is correct? Are there any real world dimensions for the actual boot size?

What are peoples views on the above choice??

Thank you

It is correct as it's measured to the roofline which makes a huge difference. Its a reasonable width and depth but owing to the boxy shape of the FL2 its high and square so has a decent capacity loaded up to the roofline, and with seats down (they fold flat) its a good big useable space, Ive had a big fridge freezer in no trouble.

As for dimensions, Ill measure later if you'd like?!

Just to add, I rented the new Ford Escape in the USA which I think is identical to our new UK Kuga, from memory I do think the Ford has a bigger boot, a lot of the FL2 space is taken up by the underfloor wheel well which if you spec a spare takes up a hefty amount of space.

Ok, boot floor is 88cm deep down the centre, 100cm between arches but increases above them and has space either side behind the arches.

Its 79cm high at the door, 100-110cm wide.

Seats down is a good 170cm from rear of my seat to tailgate, 140cm across the back seat and about 90cm tall once inside.

Hope thats useful?!

AIUI the diesel engines aren't great. For that money the D3 and XC90 will be the least reliable examples too.

XC90 unreliable
Why's that? I've run V70 diesels up to huge mileages with no bother.

The awd and gearboxes particularly, but that era (pre-06 iirc) are a low point for Volvo.

How about a BMW X3 e83? They're very underrated in my opinion, very car like to drive and have a huge boot for their size.

The market is flooded with spare parts , i can get even the most obscure parts very easily and very cheap.

UK jeeps are built in Austria

Amazing. I had a mechanic cursing Jeep parts when he had to wait two weeks and he said that wasn't unusual. Chrysler parts, too.
