I told him I was only interested in a face to face sale as I'd had a bad experience with PP.I got this response shortly afterwards.
" I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking and i can't go to the bank due to the nature of my job, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the item and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through."
Going to leave it and wait for another buyer.

Classic signs of a hacked Paypal account. (or possibly an attempt to hack yours through a faked confirmation email when the transaction is supposed to have happened)." I just sold an item on Gumtree. The guy wanted to pay by Paypal which he did and I have now transferred the money into my bank account.
Am I missing something? Same as on E-bay.
transfering the money to another bank account is no good , if paypal decides the buyer hasnt got the goods , or its a hacked account etc they will just take the money back from you and leave you in the red , then threaten debt collectors and all that Am I missing something? Same as on E-bay.

Excuse my ignorance here, but how is the OP getting scammed?
The buyer pays the OP, once money is in the OP's PayPal account, the OP transfers the funds into his own account (?)
Then gets a 'claw-back' from PayPal when the buyer raises a complaint. The buyer pays the OP, once money is in the OP's PayPal account, the OP transfers the funds into his own account (?)
No goods, PayPal chasing you with solicitors.
Wait for another buyer... Or ask him what bank he's with and then email him the telephone banking number
