Not really a suggestion for this thread, but has there been a quicker diesel hot hatch than the LHD 2002 AMG C30 CDi SC?

If I were after a quickish diesel for a commute I would look at a Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 JTDM. Almost as quick as a GTD Golf and a bit more rare and special IMO.

If your budget cant stretch to one try a 2.0 Bravo Multijet.

I've done a bit of googling and the official stats show the Audi A6 BiTurbo hits 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. There's no diesel faster than that in standard form.
Well there is the F30/31 335d 4.6 seconds quite a lot quicker.
Yep BMW/Alpina make the quickest diesels, it's 4.7 - 4.9 to 62 for the 335d depending on body style or 4.5-4.7 to 60, IIRC the Alpina is 4.6 to 62 or 4.4 to 60.

not keen on big audi's, big bmw's etc etc, too in your face for customers etc, ive already got a leon fr 184 diesel, just any other hot hatches out there with more power?
The 1 series BMW is more understated than your Leon FR and is most certainly not a "big" car.

But I guess you don't want to hear that so why don't I just tell you what you want to hear.

The fastest diesel hot hatch that isn't a BMW, Merc or audi and won't put off customers, is a Seat Leon FR diesel.

Thought about a volvo? Can get the 177bhp C30 D5 does 0-60 in 7.5secs. And with a simple remap get around 212-215bhp. Or a small saloon like the S40 D4 with similar specs but 4 pots not 5.

Skodia VRS Petrol....

I know it's off the criteria, but if your mileage is on a run I get 39. Being Petrol it's a bit cheaper than derv so equivalent to 42/43 mpg.

Its certainly utterly off topic

Topic is fastest diesel car - you suggest a petrol vRS.....

To be fair there isn't much left.

The criteria was fast, diesel and not German.
There's nothing that fits that criteria unless you drop the requirement for it to be fast!

The original questions was

So reasonably economical petrol's fit the bill too. I'm impressed you're getting that high an mpg out of the vRS though, a mate had one and I don't think he ever got over 30. I average 47 in my diesel version. I assume you're mainly cruising on motorways?

Alpina are a manufacturer in their own right, hence not BMW wink

If the OP is going to come up with a silly criteria, I'm more than happy to come up with silly suggestions.

Can you recommend a delicious cake for me? It has to be made of sand rather than flour and cannot contain any eggs, butter or any other cake ingredients.

Thanks.

p.s. No cake, either.

Fast diesel? What's the point? Fast diesel that isn't a BMW or Audi? Again, what's the point? It also doesn't exist.

2.2cdti unit in civic and accord is surprisingly good, but not 'fast'.
