Errr ....... 1979
Ah, the year I was born.In that year I was just a twinkle in my dads eye!!! Born 1992.
Had an AR50 when i was 16...19 years ago!
Rode it in all weathers for a year. It was 30 miles to the factory that i worked in on saturdays. Memories of riding in rubbish gear in freezing conditions. I used to have to stand in front of one of the massive industrial heaters when i got there just to thaw out.
No way i'd ever let my lad do it, but my parents didn't seem bothered!
I once made the trip from Spalding to Kettering to see some relatives, only i didn't ring them to let them know. Took me about 2 hrs to get there, only for them to be heading out just as i arrived. Turned round, rode home.
It never took more than about £8 in fuel, yet would run for miles and miles.
I often think about getting a slow bike - a CBF125 or something similar. I had a new CB500 on loan when the blade went in for its 1st service and i wondered whether i'd got it all wrong wanting so much power. I rode the blade back much slower afterwards.
80+ mpg would be nice too...

Twas back in 1980 when purchase of a four year old GP50 suddenly meant the world was my oyster... nowhere seemed too far to travel and I basically ran the poor little thing into the ground over the course of the next twelve months. Covered most of the south of England on it in that year tho'... and learned about how to fall off...
Collected a CB100 for a mate about ten years back and couldn't even ride it properly!
