I've been working all thru the summer holidays and feel that my kids really need a break....I've got around £1000 to spend to take us away.....any suggestions?

My little 'uns are 6 and 8 and have never been abroad (apart from Eurodisney) and I'd love to take 'em on a plane and fly off somewhere warm.

I've been looking at teletext holidays but the cheapest weeks abroad seem to come in at around £1200 and for that the chances are we'll end up in a fleapit.

Looks like it'll be in the UK......just gotta keep our fingers crossed for the weather.

The £1000 doesn't include spending money by the way biggrin

I'd do 5 days instead of a week too! smile

Rather than flying, how about jumping in the car, driving down to the South of France and staying at a Gite?

This one is free next week and comes in under your budget... http://www.cheznous.com/15769b/les-chataigniers-ga...

You might struggle to find somewhere decent with flights etc for 4 people for £1k or under, as the airport taxes alone take a couple of hundred quid out of the budget before you even start.

ETA. Or this one at €1,050 http://www.cheznous.com/15575c/le-violon-gard.aspx...

When mine were the same age we'd take them out of school (waits to get flamed) and get a far better deal out of season. Somewhere abroad like the Canary Islands in mid September should be affordable.

I too have to work all Summer so used to write to the headmistress to explain my circumstances and that it was important for the kids to spend some quality time with me. She always agreed.

Where are you based OP? Now that the Scottish schools have gone back the flight prices go back down too. A mate always goes late August whe prices are much more reasonable but we're in the NW so the majority of the airports are within 2-3 hours.

Don't have kids so we go away when we want. FWIW I don't agree with the whole fines for taking kids out of school, can't see how it's an issue unless it's in a GCSE year close to exams, but even then......

Good luck with your search.

No chance of that happening now unless you want a £150 fine per child per parent!!

We went to Cornwall last year, just inland from Newquay. Place called Atlantic Reach

It's a holiday park but not in the standard money grasping, fill it with stuff for the kids to spend on, genre. Indoor and outdoor pools, gym, restaurant, really small arcade, pitch and putt course. There were eight of us went and stayed in a 4 bed house last August for about your budget. They do have 2 bed places there as well.

About ten minutes drive into Newquay itself so well away from the nightlife

Would highly recommend for a family (no links to the place, we just had a nice time there)

In reply to the driving idea, done it many times with the family and it's great but the costs are eye watering especially if your budget is £1000.

We went to the Côte d'Azur one year in a Disco3, family of 5. The Disco was averaging 30mpg for the fast run down and up again and if you add up fuel, ferry and tolls it came to around £800. This was back in 2006.

Obviously I have not included food at various stops and on the way back we broke the journey up by staying a night at the halfway mark, Beaune.
