Jimbo, before jumping straight to Defcon 1 would it be useful to check whether bring a member of IS is a criminal offence. As you know there are many US citizens fighting in the Israeli Army. Just because some people think the IDF are a bunch of terrorists doesn't make membership of the IDF a criminal offence.

For the avoidance of doubt my personal view is that membership of IS should be a capital punishment offence but we live in a democracy. Now if it isn't a criminal offence then they HAVEN'T BROKEN THE LAW. And if they haven't broken the law there isn't much that we can do to them forcibly. In which case what Yvette Cooper is suggesting MIGHT be the only way forward.
That is fine. I submit to you that if that is the attitude adopted by the majority of your countrymen and leaders, then you are seriously doomed of something a blind man could see coming. Good luck with your choice. Sounds as if Parliment needs to meet and pass some laws right quick.

So, the rapper turned jihadist (if confirmed) lived with his mother in a Maida Vale council house that is valued at at 1,000,000? Damn.
Good of the daily mail to get the house price in. Makes all the difference to frothing up the mail readers. And its a council house.. I can imagine their heads exploding at that one.
A subsidized jihadist rapper; that has got to be close to a first.

It should be, rush it through. Or concoct some special powers.
Yep, let's give the government carte blanche to outlaw anything it likes.

So, those fighting for ISIS, beheading children, etc should be allowed to pass back through customs to the US / UK and be given a hearty welcome home? To be clear, I am not speaking of "anyone" returning from fighting in the ME, I am speaking of those specifically fighting for ISIS.

This is a parliamentary democracy (more or less). If a law is passed making it illegal to fight for "organisation X" abroad, then by all means, arrest is a possibility. Unless such a law exists, forget it.

I'm not massively sure I'd be relying on the lack that sort of specific law to keep me safe back here in the UK had I done this sort of thing.

I'm all for letting them back in.

Just as long as their names, addresses and photographs are made public.

yes the whole region has just turned into a massive massive hellhole in the last 5 years or so. So much destroyed and so many people killed.

Not sure how closely you follow UK politics? but you need to know that this Woman is a first-class idiot whose stupidity is only eclipsed by that of her (also a politician) Husband.

Stupid s the pair of'em, I sincerely hope they don't breed...
I can see that by her words alone. My worry is that some on here seem to see no problem with her reasoning.
My worry is that we may end up with this dozy bint in Government. frown

Hopefully though, her husband will help ensure that we don't...

By 'capital punishment' you are referring to the death penalty, yes?

Advocating the death penalty for membership of IS (do they have a 'membership' - is there a directory of members and heirarchy of member/founder member/associate jihadist first level etc) is an interesting move...you'd need a Guantanamo type facility tho' because the 'do-gooders' would really mess up the surrounding area with their camps (if they get can time off from anti-fracking or whatever else is hot in anti-land this year).

Clive Stafford-Smith would be rubbing his hands with glee at the potential legal fallout. Perhaps.

Yeah... She went to the local comp but managed to get into Balliol (that's an Oxford college) where she got a first class degree.

She must be really stupid. And you are?

Yes I was. In certain cases I'm extreme right wing (or "left of centre" as it's referred to on PH biggrin)

Having said that I'm glad we live in a democracy where knee-jerk reactions of individuals like myself are tempered through a process of rational debate. Whilst we may mock the "antis" they are another useful "check and balance" in our society.

To reiterate - if they've broken a law - string 'em up (metaphorically speaking). Acknowledging the fact that, whilst what they have done is extremely distasteful, they may not actually have broken any laws, doesn't mean that we should just disregard our normal legal processes. That isn't a weakness of our society, that is a strength.

She's anything but. You may not like her politics (nor do I) but to call her stupid is clearly in itself stupid.

The quality of debate on here has gone downhill since the chavs all came in. Now if someone doesn't agree with their exact jaundiced little Englander view they are deemed "stupid" or "clueless" by the many onanists who now post here.

Back in my day we............ etc....

She seems to have recognised the fact that we can't punish people for breaking the law when they haven't broken the law. She seems a lot more intelligent than a lot of posters on here.

That's as maybe, but in this case, I'd say it is fair and reasonable to question her common sense. You also need to remember that she has chosen to marry someone who is almost the definition of an intelligent idiot -recently proven to be incapable of driving a car unsupervised.
