Yes, the hill keeps going backwards and forwards. Thing is, that now the Kurds can just fall back any time there's a significant attack on the hill, call in an airstrike and retake it, with very little attrition on their side.

A fair few sources are now saying that ISIS fighters are often drugged and that some are forced to fight. CBS, Daily Mail, Erdoğan, female Syrian Kurdish PKK fighter fighter interviewed on You Tube also talks of ISIS desertions.

Nothing new the ANA were always on drugs, if they showed up and so too did members of the UAE forces in Afghanistan be on drugs.

There's a (long) tradition of armies using hashish, but these folk seem to be so stoned (possibly on prescription meds) that they're just stumbling up to Kurdish lines and doing absolutely nothing.

A Lebanese friend tells me that the best ganja on the planet comes from the Beqaa Valley. Wonder if that's why Al-Nusra are probing there?

Utterly nuts. The idea (of world wars) is a unified, single, world government? WW1 and WW2 saw the fracturing of empires. The man should join UKIP (although I suspect even they would reject him).

Why would you give them hashish?

Surely you want them all on a drug that makes them aggresive and hyper not all stoned and laid back.

Try taking hash in a state of mind where you're already hyper!

But I was thinking of the "assassin -- Hashishin" thing. It seems it's a western myth which originated sometime in the Middle Ages. Mea culpa.

Drug use -- mainly heroin and cannabis -- was pretty common amongst the American troups in Vietnam, has been reported among the IDF. The use of amphetamines was sanctioned fairly widely during WW2.

This looks a bit suspect:

'Turkey said on Friday that 1,300 Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters -- who are battling to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad -- would travel to Kobani, located just across its border.

But two top Syrian Kurdish officials told AFP that it would be better if Syria's rebels opened fronts against the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group in other parts of the war-torn country.

"If they really want to fight Daesh, they can attack (the jihadists) from Azaz and Ifrin (in northern Syria) eastwards," said Bulat Jan, a spokesman for Syria's main Kurdish fighting force, the Kurdish Popular Defence Committees (YPG).

"Any force that enters our areas without our permission would be considered an enemy force," added Jan.

He stopped short of saying whether the Kurds would turn away rebel reinforcements.' http://www.ekurd.net/mismas/articles/misc2014/10/s...

The alliance between (some factions of) FSA and the PKK/YPG has been relatively recent. Could Erdogan be trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

Because you're in a war zone? Because you're about to be killed by some Kurdish woman and go straight to hell?

But try it. I gave up the stuff years ago, but would not smoke unless I was warm and felt secure (and had nothing important to do next day).

IIRC ecstasy was actually designed by the Germans in-between the wars for military purposes (or at least derived from this)

Daesh are supposed to believe that if you die in battle you go to heaven, get X number of virgins (pretty boring, but WTH) or dates (if it's a misprint), BUT if you're killed in battle by a woman you go to hell.

MDMA was patented in 1913 (patent #274.350) by the German chemical company Merck supposedly to be sold as a diet pill (the patent does not mention any intended use), the company decided against marketing the drug and had nothing more to do with it. The US army experimented with MDMA in 1953, possibly as truth serum, they have not revealed their reasons. The Invention of MDMA or Ecstasy

So after a smoke you wanted to kill people?

No, but sometimes I wanted to get away from them. Drug effects are often conditioned by expectations: I think that may be why some people become extremely aggressive on alcohol, others just sloppy.

Tell someone that ganja will make them into an assassin, maybe they'll believe it, and stress will help.
