964 C4. Which suspension upgrade?
Discussion
Another for bilstien B6 and HR (now purple but the same as the old greens)buy from Gert at Carnewal (third off uk price). B6 have threaded bodies so you can set the height.
Had FSDs on another car, a bit hit and miss if you ask me, they try to predict high and low speed damping, but just end up as a compromise. No height adjustment.
Get a strut brace for the Targa the DO make a big difference to the stiffness - ultra racing ally one is the best/stiffest £130 off the bay.
Try to get someone with a C2 to swap their rear ARB with you - great for both cars and free!
get the front wishbone bushes and top mounts changed if they are original, will tighten up the front no end. Play about with tyre pressures, it can make a big difference and it's free.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
edit to add - the rear shock turrets are different on early cars, make sure you order the right set, also not all after market shocks do an early car version.

Blib, 90 reg or my, they differ somewhat. An 89 my may be registered as a 90, but be earlier fittings, huge amount of information on rennlist for that.

Sorry to labour this point. But a strut brace does NOT improve the chassis torsional rigidity at all as some of you are implying, it just improves the front camber stiffness. Doesn't matter whether it's a Targa, Coupe or Convertible in this respect. It does exactly the same thing for all variants. Improved camber stiffness is a good thing, but you would only notice if you were seriously loading up the front by cornering on the limit i.e. on track. So save your £130 or whatever they cost, or at least try one before you buy. Placebo effect might be worth the money
I have
Blistein shocks and h&r green springs.
Made a huge difference to standard while not being two harsh.
You may also want to consider wevo engine mounts. Cheap. Very easy DIY.
Yes you should think about roll bars on a c4
I would say a must have is a thicker anti roll bar at the back. I used a c2 one iirc
With those two mods and geo set up turn in/ under steer was much improved.
Ride height was set to 5mm above rs or it might have been 10

The saga continues. I was about to buy a Bilstein/B&W setup when the chap who is refurbing a set of Eta Beta Krones for the car suggested KW V1 coilovers. He then mentioned several owners who had actually switched from B6s to KWs and preferred the latter.
Am I right to assume that the KWs give a firmer ride than the Bilsteins? I'm not a driving god (any longer). I'm not going to throw the car around unduly. I just want a better ride than the knackered original shocks. I imagine that the KWs will be a bit too firm for me.
Thanks.

Thanks for that, Alpinestars. I think I'll go with the B6s.
Wheel sizes make a difference too, on 17's mine with B6 and H&R green is ok. On the 18's it's very firm. Bridgestone tyres are also known for very stiff sidewalls which probably makes life more interesting still.Passing Colchester, I'll take you for a spin.
