Powerful Engine.
A bit of luxury.
4 seats, decent boot - saloon, hatch or estate.
Rear Wheel Drive

I can get this with most mercs or Lexus.

But, the tricky bit is I want a manual gearbox.
(Oh, and I don't want a BMW)

Budget it up to 30k.
New or used.

What's the closest I can get to a v12 engine mated to an s2000 gearbox in a big Merc Saloon body.

To clarify - by Manual I mean I want a clutch.
None of this flappy paddly business.
I want to change gear; not ask the car to change gear for me.

Go with and XF, I have 200ps Sportbrake and its real quick (for its size and weight) handles well and is economic when you need it.

For £30K you can easily pick up a good second hand low mileage car.

Good question. I assume Maseratis only come with an auto? Ironically, with a lower budget you'd have some choice.

I'm happy to drop my budget. smile
But I still want a bit of luxury.

Various Volvos or Saabs come to mind, but perhaps they're comfortable rather than lux. Or (and don't laugh...) the MG ZT260 or 400.

Vauxhall VXR8?

Can I ask why not a BMW? They made a manual E60 550i which would be great, or even an E90 335i?

I just don't like them. smile
I could list reasons why, but it'd derail the thread.

I think the S-type was available as a manual with a V6?

Fair enough smile

How about the Vauxhall? 6.2 V8, manual gearbox, nice seats, reasonably good interior, and a good soundtrack!

If you stretch the budget a bit (well quite a lot I suppose) and put a bag over your head, you could get a Panamera.

Or how about a Rover 75 V8? Is that too crude?

Ah OK, I assumed both were offered with both. Still, the MG meets the criteria as well as anything. smile

Echoing the VXR8. Not the final word in luxury but lots of space the seats are *amazing*. Engine is lovely too.

Why not a BMW?

I never get this.

If you don't want cheap Jap interiors you haven't really got a lot of choice.

You obviously want something that is fun, so why write off the only thing out there that isn't a Porsche or too expensive?
