With only a week to go, is anyone looking forward to the release of the new MS Surface Pro 3?
After watching a few reviews and seeing how slick everything operates, this may be the device that i can upgrade too, from the laptop, and introduce smarter working with a tablet/laptop combo. I can see this device being used in the office as well as home, and will follow me everywhere.

The only downside that i can potentially see, is the use of a Haswell CPU instead of the Broadwell.
Granted, the latter isn't yet out, but it will mean that MS will most likely release a new version of Surface Pro in less that 12 months.
But looking at what the SP3 can do now, it pretty much ticks all the boxes for me; if i purchase the i7 with the max amount of SSD storage, then it should last for some time.

Luke.

The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is better than the Surface 3 is every way and the Yoga 3 should be out later this year.

Does the Yoga allow the natural writing position, so that you can rest your hand on the screen and yet still write?
I thought that this one a USP for the SP3?

To be honest, i've not looked into the Yoga as a laptop/tablet combo.

Would be interested to read your views on why the Yoga is better than the SP3.

I don't know if you've seen this or not, but it's worth a read.

I'm still eagerly waiting for the release of the SP3 and on Saturday i was lucky to have a demo whilst in PCWorld (of all places), and whilst picking up an orange Yoga2 for my dad (coincidentally, given this thread); which he does praise. I'm impressed with the hybrid drive of 8GB for the OS, which makes the Yoga2 feel very snappy, but i digress.

The Microsoft guy was happy to run through the device and flick from one app to another, and also demo the new pen. I'm astonished at the performance of the device (the i5 and 4GB RAM), and how it physically felt.
I run an i7 4770K at home, with 16GB and a 256GB Samsung Pro SSD and Windows 8.1, the PC flies! But the SP3 felt as if it would keep up with daily tasks, such as emails and web browsing.
Whilst holding it, the device didn't feel too large in the left hand and even when writing on it, it was comfortable.
It has a nice solid premium feel to it and (this is going to sound geeky) that hinge is a supersmooth, a work of art. There was no notable flexing with the keyboard and the screen was very responsive to touch and to the pen. I didn't need to alter my handwriting stylus and i was impressed to see that the handwriting that was on the screen, was spot on to what i would see on paper.
So this I am going to be buying this asap. But now here is the problem.

I can see stores are offering the devices now, as a pre-order, PC World were even offering £100 cashback too. But i noticed that apart from Microsoft there isn't another seller offering the i7, 8GB, 512GB setup. It seems that the i7, with the 256GB drive is the best spec.
Although the 256GB SSD will probably be more than enough, i feel that the 512GB model will allow the device to be used for more than 18-24 months, and i wouldn't have to worry about what is installed. Apps such as Photoshop are huge storage hogs and i could foreseen the 256GB being used up within 6 to 12 months; unless i kept on top of what was stored.

So here's to hoping that a 512GB unit is released soon and with a nice little discount.

Can i buy the one i want today? Can i hell.
PC World Currys (with their £100 rebate), will not have any in stock until the 3rd Sep
John Lewis do not sell the i5 with the 256GB SSD
The likes of Argos only have the 64GB i3 version
CarphoneWare House do not sell the SP3

Where on earth can i get this today?
Seems like this may turn into a online order, which is annoying.
As much as i dislike Apple, at least they are able to sell you the item that is being officially released, on that advertised day.

I trod on my Surface Pro 2 on Tuesday.

Ordered a pro-3 from Microsoft online on Tuesday night and it turned up at 0830 this morning.

The form factor is an improvement I think. I haven't been able to do much as it has been downloading my evernote and exchange boxes whilst I was in a meeting.

The new keyboard and trackpad are generally better BUT unless I have missed something when you have the keyboard in the new angles position it is very difficult to do the "up swipe" from the bottom of the screen.

The screen seems lovely and it flies.

And for some reason everywhere I sit has the plug on the left so the position of the power socket is still a PITA.

I've followed suit and ordered it from the MS site too, but via Quidco. They were offering a £100 discount, so that's something towards the cost.
It's a shame as i was hoping to have it before the weekend.

Keep an eye out on the performance of your unit if you go for a SP3. The i5's get very warm and throttle themselves (It's the same chip as the SP2 but in a smaller package), making it potentially slower than an SP2. Also the i7 versions are (In limited numbers) shutting themselves down due to overheating. MS is apparently working on a fix for this though.

Chuffing love my SP2 though - anyone getting a 3 won't be disappointed I'm sure!

You having problems with Chrome and blurriness at all, assuming you use it? Since I updated to 37 a couple of days ago the bloody blurriness has returned.

Mine (i5 and 256gb) has just been delivered. I wasn't aware of the i5 issue, I thought it was an issue with the i7 only (in relatively small numbers). Also, it's not overheating as such, rather it is a bug that mistakenly tells the unit that it has overheated. A fix is imminent apparently.

I must say, some of the reviews and reports on various tech websites are misinformed and biased, especially those based in the US, which are blatantly pro Apple and anti MS.

I think MS are on to something with the Surface - it's not for everyone but for illustrators, photographers, designers and others that like the stylus and tablet approach, it's a great tool. My wife has the SP2 and although it's a little small at times, it's fast and very able.

Yup I do indeed. I figured it was a Windows 8 scaling issue? I don't have another 8device so I'm not sure!

Indeed I probably should have elaborated more on the i7 issue.

I know about the i5 issue as the chap from surfacegeeks.net who reviews these things sent his back due to the issue and bought the i3 instead. Nice to watch an unbiased review from what should technically be pretty biased!

I'm waiting for the SP4 personally, hopefully with a broadwell chip and potentially more thinness!

V37 enables directwrite. But although it's supposed to better than GDI, in my experience it's much worse.

Go to chrome://flags and diable directwrite
